Extended ultrasound examination identifies more large vessel involvement in patients with giant cell arteritis

Anne Christine Bull Haaversen et al.

Summary: This study compared limited ultrasound examination with extended A2-ultrasound examination in detecting large vessel involvement in newly diagnosed giant cell arteritis (GCA) patients. The results showed that the extended A2-ultrasound method identified more cases with large vessel involvement.

Prevalence and characteristics of giant cell arteritis in patients with newly diagnosed polymyalgia rheumatica - a prospective cohort study

Lara C. Burg et al.

Summary: The prevalence of GCA in newly diagnosed PMR patients was evaluated using ultrasound examination. GCA was diagnosed in 46% of the patients, with 22% having subclinical GCA. The PMR-GCA group showed higher joint effusion and significantly higher CRP values. A CRP cut-off value of > 26.5 mg/litre in PMR can help identify subclinical GCA.

An update on polymyalgia rheumatica

Ingrid E. Lundberg et al.

Summary: Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a common inflammatory rheumatic disease that primarily affects women over 50 years old. The main symptoms include pain and morning stiffness in the shoulder and pelvic girdle, along with general symptoms such as fatigue, fever, and weight loss. Diagnosis is based on symptoms, signs, and laboratory markers of inflammation. Glucocorticoid therapy is effective, but long-term use can lead to complications.

Subclinical giant cell arteritis in new onset polymyalgia rheumatica A systematic review and meta-analysis of individual patient data

Andrea K. Hemmig et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the prevalence and predictors of subclinical giant cell arteritis in patients with newly diagnosed polymyalgia rheumatica. It found that over a quarter of PMR patients may have subclinical GCA and the prediction model had only modest diagnostic accuracy, suggesting a paradigm shift towards implementing imaging studies in the assessment of PMR patients.

EULAR points to consider for the diagnosis and management of rheumatic immune-related adverse events due to cancer immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors

Marie Kostine et al.

Summary: Rheumatic and musculoskeletal immune-related adverse events are observed in about 10% of cancer patients receiving checkpoint inhibitors. Early referral and facilitated access to rheumatologists are recommended for documenting target organ inflammation.
