Genomic analysis of sewage from 101 countries reveals global landscape of antimicrobial resistance

Patrick Munk et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance is a significant global health threat. Analyzing individual antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) is crucial for combating this threat. By analyzing ARGs in 757 sewage samples from various locations, we found regional differences in resistomes that are influenced by drug classes and taxonomic variations.

Antimicrobial resistance clusters in commensal Escherichia coli from livestock

Ayla Hesp et al.

Summary: A study analyzing data from commensal E. coli isolates over 14 years from different animal species revealed four clusters with 201 unique resistance combinations in livestock, showing varying resistance prevalence between animal species. The findings suggest the need for multiple indicators to monitor multidrug resistance in different animal populations.

Metagenomics-Based Approach to Source-Attribution of Antimicrobial Resistance Determinants - Identification of Reservoir Resistome Signatures

Ana Sofia Ribeiro Duarte et al.

Summary: Metagenomics can reveal the genetic content of microbiota in different environments, with great potential for investigating the transmission of foodborne hazards. This study demonstrates the application of metagenomics in attributing antimicrobial resistance sources, showing a potential relationship between fecal resistome components and specific reservoirs.
