Surgical Correction of Scoliosis in Children with Severe Congenital Heart Disease and Palliated Single Ventricle Physiology

Lara L. Cohen et al.

Summary: The study focused on the largest cohort of single ventricle patients undergoing surgical correction of scoliosis at a single institution to date. Results showed that operative blood loss may be reduced by routine use of tranexamic acid (TXA), with complications most commonly occurring in the postoperative period, including pleural effusion.

Is it safe and effective to correct congenital scoliosis associated with multiple intraspinal anomalies without preliminary neurosurgical intervention?

Ningning Yang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine if multiple intraspinal anomalies increase the risk of scoliosis correction in congenital scoliosis (CS) patients and if preliminary neurosurgical intervention is necessary. It found that the presence of multiple intraspinal anomalies did not increase the risk of neurosurgical complications during scoliosis correction, indicating that such patients can safely undergo corrective surgery without prior neurosurgical intervention.

Cross-sectional analysis and trend of vertebral and associated anomalies in Chinese congenital scoliosis population: a retrospective study of one thousand, two hundred and eighty nine surgical cases from 2010 to 2019

Guanfeng Lin et al.

Summary: The study reported that patients with cervical spina bifida (CS) commonly exhibited associated anomalies such as intraspinal defects, cardiac defects, genitourinary system defects, gastrointestinal defects, and musculoskeletal defects. Patients with segmentation failure and mixed defects were more prone to intraspinal and musculoskeletal defects. Over the period from 2010 to 2019, there was an increase in the proportion of patients with formation failure, leading to a decrease in the incidence of intraspinal and musculoskeletal defects.
