Bullying of vascular surgery trainees

Summary: This study aimed to understand the factors associated with bullying in vascular surgery trainees and the barriers to reporting. The results showed that a significant number of trainees had experienced bullying, with their direct superior surgeons being the most common perpetrators. The most common barriers to reporting bullying were fear of loss of support, reputation, and career choices.

Summary: Workplace bullying is a serious problem that affects individuals, organizations, and society. This study aims to explore the factors that influence bystanders' behavior in healthcare settings. The findings suggest that negative organizational culture, deficiencies in management, fear of negative consequences, lack of awareness, excusing of bullying behavior, and bystanders not being part of the dominant group contribute to bystanders' passive behavior. To effectively address workplace bullying, organizations need to take it seriously, take action, and support both the targets and bystanders.
