Nucleus accumbens neurons expressing dopamine D1 receptors modulate states of consciousness in sevoflurane anesthesia

Wei-Wei Bao et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the population activities of neurons expressing dopamine D1 receptor (D1R) in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) decrease before sevoflurane-induced loss of consciousness and gradually return after recovery of consciousness. Chemogenetic activation of NAcD1R neurons delays the induction of and accelerates emergence from sevoflurane general anesthesia (GA), while inhibition of these neurons has the opposite effect. Additionally, transient activation of NAcD1R neurons induces significant cortical activation and behavioral emergence during continuous steady-state GA.

Sevoflurane preconditioning promotes mesenchymal stem cells to relieve myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury via TRPC6-induced angiogenesis

Jinting Yang et al.

Summary: Sevoflurane preconditioning can enhance MSCs to attenuate myocardial I/R injury through TRPC6-induced angiogenesis. It also promotes angiogenesis and anti-inflammatory effects of HUVECs, as well as improves left ventricle systolic function and reduces infarction and inflammation in mice subjected to I/R insult.

Dopaminergic Projections From the Ventral Tegmental Area to the Nucleus Accumbens Modulate Sevoflurane Anesthesia in Mice

Huan Gui et al.

Summary: This study utilized various techniques to investigate the role and mechanisms of the dopaminergic pathway in sevoflurane anesthesia, revealing that VTA-DA neurons are inhibited during the induction phase and activated during recovery, modulating the induction and emergence processes of anesthesia through the VTA(DA)-NAc pathway.

Behaviors Related to Psychiatric Disorders and Pain Perception in C57BL/6J Mice During Different Phases of Estrous Cycle

Weinan Zhao et al.

Summary: Research on psychiatry- and pain-related behaviors in humans show strong sex differences, but the use of female mice in preclinical studies is limited due to potential behavioral variations over the estrous cycle. However, a study on female C57BL/6J mice found that these behaviors remain relatively consistent throughout different phases of the estrous cycle, suggesting that the estrous cycle may not be a major contributor to behavioral variability in female mice.

Sevoflurane preconditioning protects experimental ischemic stroke by enhancing anti-inflammatory microglia/macrophages phenotype polarization through GSK-3β/Nrf2 pathway

Min Cai et al.

Summary: Sevoflurane preconditioning promotes anti-inflammatory microglia/macrophages polarization by GSK-3 beta-dependent Nrf2 activation, suggesting a novel mechanism for SPC-induced neuroprotection in ischemic stroke.
