Visible-Light-Promoted [3+2] Cyclization of Chalcones with 2-Mercaptobenzimidazoles: A Protocol for the Synthesis of Imidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles

Ziren Chen et al.

Summary: A visible-light-promoted [3 + 2] cyclization reaction using chalcones and 2-mercaptobenzoimidazoles has been developed for the synthesis of diverse imidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles via an electron-donor-acceptor (EDA) complex. This novel aminothiolation reaction can proceed under visible light irradiation alone, without the need for external photocatalysts, transition metals, or oxidants. Mechanistic studies have revealed that the formation of EDA complexes between thiol anions and chalcones provides a new strategy for the synthesis of imidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles.

Chengzong Tang et al.

Summary: The bifunctional Lewis acidic ionic liquid (LAIL) catalyzed multicomponent arylsulfonation reaction was developed, which transformed various aryl triazenes into aryl sulfonyl radicals by coupling with DABSO, and then coupled with phenoxy radicals to yield diaryl sulfones. This reaction showed good functional-group tolerance, gram-scale reactivity, and avoided the use of SO2 gas.

Protein Modification via Mild Photochemical Isomerization of Triazenes to Release Aryl Diazonium Ions

Garrett J. Davis et al.

Summary: This study describes the development of triazene derivatives that can release aryl diazonium ions for protein labeling using light activation. The intensity and duration of UV light were found to be crucial for the reactivity of diazonium ions, which compete with traditional photolytic pathways. Triazenes' synthetic efficiency and stability make them attractive candidates for bioconjugation applications.
