Rh(III)-Catalyzed Alkylation of 8-Methylquinolines with Oxabenzonorbornadienes

Rohit Sarthi et al.

Summary: In this study, a concise Rh(III)-catalyzed C(sp3)-H alkylation of 8-methylquinolines with oxabenzonorbornadiene scaffolds and other strained olefins was presented. The developed catalytic methodology exhibits key features such as the retention of the oxabenzonorbornadiene skeleton, broad substrate scope, and wide-ranging functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies revealed that the reaction proceeds through a non-radical pathway, with the five membered rhodacycle serving as the key intermediate. This is the first report on the C(sp3)-H alkylation of 8-methylquinolines with strained oxabenzonorbornadiene scaffolds (with ring retention).

Yaoguang Sheng et al.

Summary: A versatile and efficient method for the coupling of maleimides and indoles at the C7-position has been established under Rh(III) catalysis. The protocol is compatible with various functional groups, and yields diverse 3-(indol-7-yl) maleimides and 3-(indol-7-yl)succinimides by switching reaction conditions. Deuteration studies and control experiments have been carried out to explore the mechanism of this transformation.

Pd-Catalyzed Atropselective C-H Olefination Promoted by a Transient Directing Group

Rohit Kumar et al.

Summary: A Pd(II)-catalyzed atropselective olefination of biaryls with maleimides was achieved using a chiral transient directing group (CTDG) strategy. L-tert-leucine was employed as a chiral auxiliary to obtain atropselective biaryl aldehydes with high enantiomeric excess. The method also showed high efficiency for other olefins and non-linear effect studies indicated the importance of chiral auxiliary in product selectivity and reaction conditions on yield.

Shuang-Liang Liu et al.

Summary: Transition-metal-catalyzed directed C-H alkenylation with maleimides has gained significant attention in recent years due to the presence of maleimide core moieties in various natural products and pharmaceuticals. Moreover, these derivatives can be easily transformed into biologically important compounds including succinimides, pyrrolidines, and gamma-lactams. This review provides an overview of the major progress and mechanistic investigations on Heck-type reaction/cyclization of maleimides with organic molecules until early 2022.

Regioselective C(sp(3))-H amidation of 8-methylquinolines with N-hydroxyphthalimides

Rohit Kumar et al.

Summary: The Rh(iii)-catalysed C(sp(3))-H bond amidation of 8-methylquinolines using N-hydroxyphthalimides as the amidation source is explored. Diversely substituted 8-methylquinolines were well tolerated and furnished the amidated products in excellent yields with high regioselectivity. The developed reaction conditions were also applied successfully for the secondary C(sp(3))-H amidation of 8-ethylquinolines, showing its applicability in gram-scale synthesis and product diversification.
