Independent risk factors for myasthenic crisis and disease exacerbation in a retrospective cohort of myasthenia gravis patients

Christopher Nelke et al.

Summary: Myasthenic crisis and disease exacerbation impose a high burden on patients with myasthenia gravis. Disease severity at diagnosis and antibody status can predict the occurrence of crisis and exacerbation. Intensified monitoring and prevention of infectious complications may help prevent uncontrolled disease in MG patients.

Summary: The study revealed that over half of newly diagnosed AChR-positive MG cases experience exacerbation within the first 6 years, with male gender, disease severity at onset, and prednisone dose reduction being predictors of MG exacerbation.

Factors affecting improvement of neurologic status evaluated by Quantitative Myasthenia Gravis Score for patients with thymomatous myasthenia gravis after extended thymectomy

Zhu Haoshuai et al.

Summary: In patients with thymomatous MG undergoing thymectomy, it takes on average 6 months to achieve a 3 point reduction in QMGS and 30 months for another 3 point reduction. Older age (>=42 years) and higher Masaoka-Koga stage (>I) are associated with a lower probability of achieving a reduction in QMGS.

Thymectomy in Myasthenic Patients With Thymoma: Killing Two Birds With One Stone

Vittorio Aprile et al.

Summary: Surgery, particularly extended thymectomy, plays a crucial role in the treatment of patients with thymoma and myasthenia gravis, providing excellent oncologic outcomes and significant neurologic improvements. The study also highlights the importance of early stage detection and treatment in achieving better overall survival and disease-free interval for patients with thymoma.
