Anti-Vibrio activity of Pseudoalteromonas xiamenensis STKMTI.2, a new potential vibriosis biocontrol bacterium in marine aquaculture

Summary: Pseudoalteromonas xiamenensis STKMTI.2 was isolated from mangrove sediments in Setokok Island, Indonesia. The bacterium showed antagonistic properties against Vibrio spp., with active compounds extracted and tested for antibacterial activities. Aromatic Polyketides from the Deep-Sea Cold-Seep Mussel Associated Endozoic Fungus Talaromyces minioluteus CS-138

Summary: Five new aromatic polyketides, including a unique benzofuran derivative, talarominine A (1), and four chromone analogs talamins A-D (2-5), were isolated and identified from the endozoic fungus Talaromyces minioluteus CS-138 obtained from the deep-sea cold seep mussel Gigantidas platifrons. The chemical structures of these compounds were elucidated and their antibacterial and DPPH scavenging activities were evaluated, showing promising bioactivities. This work represents the first report on marine natural products of mussel-derived fungus living in cold seep environments.

A new steroid with 7β,8β-epoxidation from the deep sea-derived fungus Aspergillus penicillioides SD-311

Summary: A new steroid, 7 beta,8 beta-epoxy-(22E,24R)-24-methylcholesta-4,22-diene-3,6-dione (1), was isolated from the deep sea-derived fungus, Aspergillus penicillioides SD-311, along with five known analogues. Compound 1 possessed a rare 7,8-epoxidation moiety, and this is the first report of natural products from this fungus species. The structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute configuration was established by X-ray diffraction experiments.

Some of these compounds showed inhibitory activity against ACE and aquatic bacteria, with further investigation on their interactions through molecular docking simulations with ACE.

Summary: The antimicrobial compound isolated from Bacillus stercoris MBTDCMFRI Ba37 showed wide spectrum antibacterial activity against aquaculture pathogens. The compound 1-(1-Hydroxyethyl)-1,7,10,12,13,15,17 heptamethyl-16-oxatetracyclo[8.7.0.0(2,3).0(12,13)]heptadecan-5-one was identified as the major contributor to its antibacterial properties. These findings suggest potential for developing novel antimicrobial therapeutics against various pathogens.

Two New Phenol Derivatives from the Cold Seep-Derived Fungus Aspergillus insuetus SD-512

Summary: Two new phenol derivatives, insphenol A and acetylpeniciphenol, along with seven known analogs, were isolated from the deep-sea cold seep-derived fungus Aspergillus insuetus SD-512. Insphenol A represents the first example of isopentenyl phenol derivative with a unique 1-glycosylation from the species Aspergillus insuetus. Acetylpeniciphenol showed inhibitory effects against three pathogens.

Diversity and Antimicrobial Activity of Vietnamese Sponge-Associated Bacteria

Summary: This study found that cultivable bacteria associated with Vietnamese sponges are diverse, with some showing antimicrobial activity. Culture media influenced the composition of cultivable bacteria, but similar bacteria were recovered from different sponge species. Interestingly, there was little overlap in bacterial composition associated with sponges when compared to cultivation-independent data.
