The Effect of Conjugation of Ciprofloxacin and Moxifloxacin with Fatty Acids on Their Antibacterial and Anticancer Activity

Summary: Novel conjugates of moxifloxacin with fatty acids were synthesized and found to have stronger cytotoxic potential than the parent drug. Some of these conjugates showed high cytotoxicity against prostate cancer cells. Additionally, they exhibited activity against standard and clinical bacterial strains, as well as mycobacteria.

Molecular Umbrella as a Nanocarrier for Antifungals

Summary: A molecular umbrella composed of two O-sulfated cholic acid residues was successfully used as a nanocarrier for the construction of cleavable antifungal conjugates. Among the conjugates, the most active one containing the TML-pimelate linker, demonstrated comparable antifungal activity to intact cispentacin and accumulated in Candida cells.

Esterase-Sensitive Prodrugs of a Potent Bisubstrate Inhibitor of Nicotinamide N-Methyltransferase (NNMT) Display Cellular Activity

Summary: A prodrug strategy was developed to enhance the cellular activity of a newly discovered bisubstrate inhibitor of NNMT with potent biochemical inhibitory activity. By temporarily protecting the amine and carboxylic acid moieties, a range of ester prodrugs were successfully designed, among which the isopropyl ester was chosen as the preferred acid prodrug. The isopropyl ester and isopropyl ester-TML prodrugs showed improved cell permeability and significantly enhanced cellular activity in live cells.

Antifungal efficacy of lauric acid and caprylic acid - Derivatives of virgin coconut oil against Candida albicans

Summary: This study found that the active ingredients of virgin coconut oil, lauric acid and caprylic acid, have potential antifungal activity against Candida albicans, with caprylic acid showing the highest antifungal potential. Further research and clinical evaluation are needed to determine their potential therapeutic use.
