Folate inhibits lipid deposition via the autophagy pathway in chicken hepatocytes

Summary: Excessive fat deposition affects broiler meat production. The molecular mechanism of hepatic fat deposition is largely unknown. Genetic and genomics methods were used to reveal key genes and pathways related to fatty acid biosynthesis, metabolism, and folate biosynthesis. Folate was found to inhibit lipid deposition by regulating genes involved in DNA methylation, lipid metabolism, and autophagy pathways. Folate may interfere with hepatic lipid deposition through the autophagy pathway in broilers.

The use of rice bran oil improves feed conversion ratio and enhances meat quality. Additionally, the inclusion of rice bran oil in the diet alters the fatty acid composition of chicken meat, increasing the deposition of omega-3 fatty acids.

Summary: This study examined the effects of diets with different fat sources on the performance, immune system, bone strength, and carcass quality of heat-stressed broilers. The results showed that adding different fat sources to the diet did not benefit broiler performance under hot conditions, but unsaturated fatty acids improved the fatty acid composition of the thigh muscle and enhanced immune responses in broilers.

Summary: Intensive selective breeding for high growth rate and body weight cause excess abdominal fat in broilers. Gut microbiota and folic acid were reported to regulate lipid metabolism. In this study, folic acid supplementation was found to decrease abdominal fat deposition in broilers by inhibiting adipocyte proliferation and differentiation, possibly through changes in gut microbiota and short chain fatty acid production. The results showed that feed restriction and sex primarily affected the nutritional value of meat, with minimal effects on physical measurements. In rabbits and nutrias, the interaction between feed restriction and sex influenced the cross-sectional area of muscle fibers.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of feed restriction on the growth performance and carcass composition of male and female chicken, rabbit, and nutria. The results showed that feed restriction had stronger effects on broiler chickens compared to rabbits and nutrias. The effect of feed restriction on carcass composition was negligible in all selected species. Significant differences were observed in different parameters between males and females in each species.

The results showed that supplementation with KPL can enhance sensory quality and oxidative stability of rabbit meat, as well as increase the content of n-3 fatty acids in the muscle.
