Anchoring nitrogen-doped Co2P nanoflakes on NiCo2O4 nanorod arrays over nickel foam as high-performance 3D electrode for alkaline hydrogen evolution

Xiaohao Ji et al.

Summary: Effective and robust electrocatalysts can be achieved through the design of innovative materials and unique structures. This study presents a flakelike cobalt phosphide-based catalyst supported on NiCo2O4 nanorods array, grown in-situ on a nickel foam current collector. The optimized microstructure and electronic structure of the catalyst contribute to its abundant electrochemical surface area, favorable surface wettability, excellent electron transport, and tailored d band center. The resulting N-Co2P/NiCo2O4/NF electrode exhibits impressive hydrogen evolution reaction activity with low overpotentials and superior durability in alkaline medium, indicating its potential for practical electrocatalysis applications.

A promoted photocatalysis system trade-off between thermodynamic and kinetic via hierarchical distribution dual-defects for efficient H2 evolution

Jiaqi Gao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a strategy of constructing dual-defects in hierarchically modified black TiO2 nanotube array to enhance photocatalytic activity. The coexistence of dual-defects reduces band-gap, preserves thermodynamic capabilities, and forms a built-in electric field for efficient charge transfer. The broadening of light absorption and acceleration of photogenerated charge transfer induced by correct concentration and distribution of dual-defects realize the tradeoff between thermodynamic and kinetic factors.

Tuning the Mn Dopant To Boost the Hydrogen Evolution Performance of CoP Nanowire Arrays

Cheng Meng et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the design and fabrication of Mn-doped cobalt phosphide nanowires as highly efficient electrocatalysts for alkaline hydrogen evolution. By doping Mn, the morphology and electronic structure of the material are modified, resulting in an increase in the number of active sites and improvement in intrinsic activity. The Mn-doped CoP nanowires exhibit lower overpotentials and higher activity compared to undoped CoP, attributed to the increased electrochemical active area, reduced impedance, and tuned electronic structure of the material.

Delicate Control on the Shell Structure of Hollow Spheres Enables Tunable Mass Transport in Water Splitting

Ping Hou et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel method to regulate the shell structures of hollow multishell structures, transforming the shells from solid to bubble-like and replicating them with narrow spacing through a simple phosphorization process. The fabricated CoP HoMSs with closely duplicated shells exhibit superior electrocatalytic performance in the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction, benefitting from the unbalanced Laplace pressure for increased gas release and enhanced capillary force for accelerated liquid transfer.

Phosphating-induced charge transfer on CoO/CoP interface for alkaline H2 evolution

Qian Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a CoO/CoP heterostructure catalyst POZ was designed by a phosphating strategy to achieve high performance in the alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at a large current density. The strong electron transfer on the interface of CoO/CoP was experimentally and theoretically proven, leading to a low overpotential and remarkable solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency. The construction of CoO/CoP interface by a simple phosphating strategy could provide an important reference to enhance the HER performance on materials beyond metal oxides.
