A pentanuclear {Co5} cluster motif forming a capped breathing kagome lattice

Summary: A new pentanuclear {Co-5} cluster motif with a D-3h oblate trigonal bipyramidal geometry was discovered, forming a unique capped breathing kagome lattice. Magnetic results indicated paramagnetism at 2 K, with the disappearance of two-thirds of the spin moment at low temperatures and the appearance of a 1/5 magnetization plateau.
