Summary: Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is essential for the expansion of intestinal tuft cells during infection with helminth Nippostrongylus brasiliensis. MIF-deficient mice show defective innate responses and fail to expand immune cell populations. MIF acts as a co-factor on both ILC2s and macrophages to activate responses to IL-25.

Circulating MIF Associated With Disease Severity and Clinical Response of Sublingual Immunotherapy in House Dust Mite-Induced Allergic Rhinitis

Summary: The study found that serum MIF levels were significantly elevated in allergic rhinitis patients, especially in those with severe disease, and MIF levels were positively correlated with clinical symptoms, serum specific IgE, and other markers. In patients with house dust mite-induced AR undergoing SLIT treatment, serum MIF levels had predictive value for clinical response, indicating that MIF could serve as an independent predictor for treatment responsiveness.
