Impact of health literacy in patients with cardiovascular diseases: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Yuji Kanejima et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis clarifies the impacts of health literacy on mortality, readmission, and quality of life in the secondary or tertiary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The results show that low health literacy is significantly associated with increased mortality and hospital readmission, as well as decreased quality of life.

Association of Lifestyle Factors and Antihypertensive Medication Use With Risk of All-Cause and Cause-Specific Mortality Among Adults With Hypertension in China

Qi Lu et al.

Summary: This study examined the joint association of antihypertensive medication use and healthy lifestyle with mortality among individuals with hypertension. The results showed that individuals with hypertension who used antihypertensive medication and had a healthy lifestyle had the lowest risk of all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality. Improvements in lifestyle score after hypertension diagnosis were also associated with lower risk of mortality.

Effectiveness of nurse-led counselling and education on self-efficacy of patients with acute coronary syndrome: A randomized controlled trial

Hossein Bagheri et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of nurse-led counselling and education using a person-centred care approach on short-term cardiac self-efficacy in patients with acute coronary syndrome. Results showed that cardiac self-efficacy, including the ability to control symptoms and maintain function, was significantly higher in the intervention group compared to the control group after the intervention.

Health literacy interventions for secondary prevention of coronary artery disease: a scoping review

Alison Beauchamp et al.

Summary: Deficits in health literacy are common in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This scoping review identified interventions targeting social support, patient-health system interaction, clinician health literacy capacities, and access to health services that were effective in improving health outcomes for CAD patients. These interventions should be integrated into routine clinical practice.

Nurse-led interventions to manage hypertension in general practice: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Catherine Stephen et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the impact of general practice nurse-led interventions on blood pressure control and cardiovascular disease risk factor reduction in patients with hypertension. The results showed significant reductions in blood pressure and improvements in blood lipids, physical activity, and general lifestyle measures with these interventions. However, the evidence for dietary improvements and reduction in alcohol and smoking rates was inconclusive.

Summary: The study evaluated an interdisciplinary and nurse-led cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation programme in patients with coronary heart disease. The results showed that the intervention programme in Spain increased the proportion of patients achieving European cardiovascular recommendations, including fruit and vegetable consumption, oily fish consumption, self-reported physical activity, blood pressure, and LDL concentrations.

Promoting nurse-led behaviour change interventions to prevent cardiovascular disease in disadvantaged communities: A scoping review

Sarah Freeley et al.

Summary: This study reviewed and analyzed the impact and nature of nurse-led behavior change interventions for preventing cardiovascular diseases in disadvantaged communities. The findings suggest that these interventions are largely effective in disadvantaged areas, although there is considerable variation in intervention approaches and study populations. Further research is needed to examine the unique barriers and facilitators of interventions for specific disadvantaged groups.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a complex multilevel, multimodal intervention based on the chronic care model for controlling cardiovascular risk factors among stroke survivors. The study did not find additional improvements in vascular risk factors beyond usual care with the intervention, suggesting further studies may consider modifications to enhance implementation and participant engagement.
