Deep Sternal Wound Infection and Mortality in Cardiac Surgery: A Meta-analysis

Roberto Perezgrovas-Olaria et al.

Summary: Deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) is a severe complication after cardiac surgical procedures and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. A meta-analysis of studies showed that DSWI is associated with higher mortality and adverse clinical outcomes in the short and long term.

Single versus multiple arterial grafting in diabetic patients at 10 years: the Arterial Revascularization Trial

David P. Taggart et al.

Summary: The post hoc analysis of the Arterial Revascularization Trial (ART) showed that multiple arterial grafting (MAG) was associated with significantly lower mortality rates at 10 years in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) after coronary artery bypass grafting. However, MAG was also found to increase the incidence of deep sternal wound infections (DSWI), especially in insulin-treated patients.
