Splitting Probabilities of Symmetric Jump Processes

J. Klinger et al.

Summary: We derive a universal and exact asymptotic form of the splitting probability for symmetric continuous jump processes, which highlights the importance of microscopic dynamics and provides explicit predictions for characterizing the effective random process in light scattering.

Mechanical pressure and work cycle of confined active Brownian particles

Paolo Malgaretti et al.

Summary: Researchers have derived an analytic expression for the mechanical pressure of a generic one-dimensional model of confined active Brownian particles, which is applicable to all values of Peclet number and all confining scenarios. The model reproduces the known scaling of bulk pressure with Pe(2) and is well validated by simulations of ABPs in 2D. They use the pressure formula to calculate the work and efficiency of an active engine, finding that efficiency is maximized for work cycles with finite period, rather than in infinitely slow cycles as in thermodynamic engines.

Antiresonant driven systems for particle manipulation

M. Florencia Carusela et al.

Summary: The onset of antiresonant behavior in mass transport systems driven by time-dependent forces is reported, which arises from the coupling of a high number of space-time modes of the force. The presence of forces with a wide space-time spectrum in confined systems can be exploited to design protocols for optimal transport processes and manipulate the dynamics of nano-objects. Specifically, polymer chains confined in a flexible channel can be sorted and trapped using resonance-antiresonance pairs found in the system.

Transport of neutral and charged nanorods across varying-section channels

Paolo Malgaretti et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamics of neutral and charged rods in varying-section channels, revealing that the transport of charged rods is sensitive to the geometry of the channel. The permeability of the channel does not monotonically depend on the charge of the rod, offering a novel mechanism for separating charged rods.
