Effects of cadmium on the female reproductive axis of a Neotropical fish

Maiara Vicentini et al.

Summary: The study found that cadmium may have potential effects on the female reproductive regulation axis HPGL of the Neotropical species Rhamdia quelen. Although no significant changes were observed in hormone levels and reproductive indicators after 15 days of cadmium exposure, the metal was detected at higher concentrations in the liver compared to the gonads, and oxidative stress was present to some extent.

Cadmium chloride-induced transgenerational neurotoxicity in zebrafish development

Jingjing Tian et al.

Summary: Cadmium is a significant environmental pollutant that can harm the ecological environment and organismal health, affecting behavior, neurotransmitter levels, and neuronal development in offspring. Exposure to cadmium chloride in sexually-mature zebrafish led to reduced swimming speed and distance in F1 offspring, disruption of neurotransmitter levels, and altered gene expression related to neuro-development and neurotransmitter metabolism, causing developmental neurotoxicity. These findings highlight the harm that cadmium chloride poses to aquatic ecosystems.

Cadmium-induced Oxidative Stress and Immunosuppression Mediated Mitochondrial Apoptosis via JNK-FoxO3a-PUMA pathway in Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) Gills

Jianqing Chen et al.

Summary: Cadmium-induced damage in carp gills is associated with apoptosis, mainly involving oxidative stress, immunosuppression, and apoptosis-related genes. Cadmium exposure resulted in cadmium accumulation and apoptotic injury caused by mitochondrion, along with oxidative stress and immunosuppression mediated through the JNK-FoxO3a-PUMA pathway.

A state of the art review on characterization of heavy metal binding metallothioneins proteins and their widespread applications

Melvin S. Samuel et al.

Summary: Metallothioneins (MTs), small metalloproteins with cysteine residues, have various functions including metal binding, metal homeostasis, and protection against heavy metals. They are studied as a promising solution for heavy metal contamination and utilized as bio-environmental markers for predicting contamination levels. The structural and chemical characterization of MTs, along with techniques for quantification and purification, have been extensively explored in various fields.
