ncRNA-Mediated High Expression of LPCAT1 Correlates with Poor Prognosis and Tumor Immune Infiltration of Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Qiu Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the overexpression of LPCAT1 in liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) and its correlation with prognosis, immune infiltration, and immune checkpoint expression. It also predicts the upstream noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) involved in LPCAT1 upregulation. The findings suggest that LPCAT1 may serve as a potential oncogene in LIHC and its overexpression is associated with poor prognosis and immune dysregulation.

LPCAT1 functions as an oncogene in cervical cancer through mediating JAK2/STAT3 signaling

Fufeng Gao et al.

Summary: LPCAT1 is over-expressed in cervical cancer tissues and is closely associated with poor prognosis. Silencing of LPCAT1 inhibits proliferation, migration, and invasion of cervical cancer cells and induces apoptosis. LPCAT1 regulates cervical cancer progression through the IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway. LPCAT1 may serve as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for cervical cancer.

Overexpression of LPCAT1 enhances endometrial cancer stemness and metastasis by changing lipid components and activating TGF-β/Smad2/3 signaling pathway

Tianyi Zhao et al.

Summary: The incidence of endometrial cancer is increasing and is associated with metabolic disorders. LPCAT1, as a key enzyme in phospholipid metabolism, plays a crucial role in the development of endometrial cancer. This study shows that silencing of LPCAT1 suppresses the growth of endometrial cancer, while overexpression of LPCAT1 enhances the stemness and metastasis of endometrial cancer cells. Furthermore, LPCAT1 activates the TGF-beta/Smad2/3 signaling pathway, promoting the expression of stem cell-related transcription factors and epithelial-mesenchymal transition related proteins. Additionally, the inhibitor TSI-01 can effectively inhibit LPCAT1 activity, leading to suppressed proliferation and enhanced apoptosis of endometrial cancer cells.

Hepatocellular carcinoma

Josep M. Llovet et al.

Summary: Liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), poses a significant global health challenge with rising incidence projected to exceed 1 million cases by 2025. Infection by hepatitis B and C viruses remains a major risk factor for HCC, while non-alcoholic steatohepatitis is emerging as a more common risk factor in Western countries. Advances in systemic therapies for HCC, including immunotherapies and targeted therapies, are expected to revolutionize the management of this disease.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
