A comprehensive review of 1,2,4-triazole fungicide toxicity in zebrafish (Danio rerio): A mitochondrial and metabolic perspective

Tao Huang et al.

Summary: This critical review synthesizes peer-reviewed literature on triazole fungicide exposures in the zebrafish model. The data suggests that exposure to triazoles impairs mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, and lipid metabolism in zebrafish, leading to developmental delays, deformity, and aberrant behaviors. The review also identifies novel biomarkers of triazole fungicide exposure.

Toxic mechanism of three azole fungicides and their mixture to green alga Chlorella pyrenoidosa

Qiong-Yuan Nong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the joint toxicity mechanism of azole fungicides at different exposure times and mixed conditions on Chlorella pyrenoidosa. Results showed time-dependent toxicities at high concentrations, with different levels of SOD and CAT activities induced by the three azole fungicides and their ternary mixture. The toxic mechanisms may be related to the continuous accumulation of reactive oxygen species.

Concentration Addition, Independent Action, and Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships for Chemical Mixture Toxicities of the Disinfection By products of Haloacetic Acids on the Green Alga Raphidocelis subcapitata

Li-Tang Qin et al.

Summary: The study investigated the toxicological interactions of HAA mixtures in green algae and predicted DBP mixture toxicities based on different models. Results showed that mixture effects were synergistic in 47.1% and antagonistic in 25%, while additive effects were only observed in 27.9% of experiments. Predictive models failed to accurately predict mixture toxicity.

Quantitative characterization of toxicity interaction within antibiotic-heavy metal mixtures on Chlorella pyrenoidosa by a novel area-concentration ratio method

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: Toxicity interaction, synergism, and antagonism can occur when multiple pollutants are exposed to the environment simultaneously, limiting the utility of standard toxicity assessment models. The development of a novel model, the ACR method, allows for quantitative characterization of combined toxicity and shows varying trends in toxicity interactions in different mixture systems.

Toxic effects and mechanisms of PFOA and its substitute GenX on the photosynthesis of Chlorella pyrenoidosa

Yanyao Li et al.

Summary: The study showed that both PFOA and GenX had negative effects on the growth, chlorophyll content, and photosynthetic activity of Chlorella pyrenoidosa. GenX may not be an ideal substitute for PFOA, and more attention should be paid to the management of emerging perfluoroalkyl substances.

Application of Chlorella pyrenoidosa embedded biochar beads for water treatment

Qicong Guo et al.

Summary: The study examined the efficiency of biochar beads embedded with freshwater algae in removing pollutants. The combination showed improved pollutant removal, with the algae responsible for nutrient removal and the biochar for organic matter and heavy metal removal. Bc-Cp beads demonstrated high potential for usage in estuarine environments and saline groundwater.
