Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

Immunology and Immune Checkpoint Inhibition in Ovarian Cancer - Current Aspects

Holger Bronger

Summary: Immunotherapies like immune checkpoint blockade have greatly improved the treatment of various diseases, but ovarian cancer has not benefited much from them. Low mutational burden, inadequate presentation of antigens, and increased infiltration of immunosuppressive cells may be reasons for this. Although response rates to PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint inhibitors in ovarian cancer trials have been disappointingly low, isolated long-term remissions have been observed. Finding predictive biomarkers and suitable combination partners for ICB therapy is now crucial to enhance the immunogenicity of ovarian cancer or overcome immunosuppressive resistance mechanisms.
