Cellulose acetate based sustainable nanostructured membranes for environmental remediation

Ayesha Rehman et al.

Summary: Membrane-based gas separation has the potential to reduce environmentally hazardous carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. This study focuses on synthesizing mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with improved CO2 adsorption performance and stability. The incorporation of Cu-MOF-GO composite filler into the polymer matrix enhances the properties of the membranes. Increasing the filler concentration affects the CO2 adsorption. The successful incorporation of MOF within the MMMs was confirmed through various analytical techniques.

Polyethylenimine grafted ZIF-8@cellulose acetate membrane for enhanced gas separation

Zhirong Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, the interfacial compatibility between cellulose acetate (CA) matrix and ZIF-8 crystals was enhanced by grafting polyethylenimine (PEI) onto ZIF-8 particles. The resulting PEI grafted ZIF-8@CA (PZIF-8@CA) membrane exhibited better gas separation performance.

Cellulose acetate based sustainable nanostructured membranes for environmental remediation

Ayesha Rehman et al.

Summary: Membrane-based gas separation has the potential to reduce environmentally hazardous CO2 gas. This study aimed to synthesize mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with improved CO2 adsorption performance and stability. The effect of increasing filler concentration on CO2 adsorption was investigated. The results showed that increasing the filler concentration improved the adsorption performance, but beyond a certain concentration, aggregation occurred. The successful incorporation of MOF within the MMMs was confirmed through spectroscopy analysis.

Polycrystalline metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes for molecular separations: Engineering prospects and challenges

Mohamad Rezi Abdul Hamid et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) membranes hold great research value in gas separations, with zeoliticimidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) being the most widely studied. Other MOF membranes have also been researched for hydrogen purification and carbon capture. Engineering challenges such as cost, design, stability, and reproducibility are key considerations for the industrial scale-up of MOF membranes.

Ovaid Mehmood et al.

Summary: This study investigated the permeation characteristics of CA/γ-CD-MOF mixed matrix membranes for CO2/CH4 separation, with defect-free membranes showing uniform dispersion of filler and high selectivity. Increasing filler weight percentage and pressure led to decreased permeability and selectivity for both gases, with the highest CO2/CH4 selectivity achieved by CA/γ-CD-MOF 0.4wt% MMM.
