Engineering Cobalt Oxide with Coexisting Cobalt Defects and Oxygen Vacancies for Enhanced Catalytic Oxidation of Toluene

Yifei Li et al.

Summary: Coexistence of cobalt defects and oxygen vacancies has a significant effect on the performance of catalysts, improving the catalytic activity for toluene oxidation. A Co3-xO4-y catalyst with both cobalt defects and oxygen vacancies was synthesized, achieving over 90% toluene conversion under light illumination for 10 minutes at a temperature of around 180 degrees Celsius. Cobalt defects promote the formation of oxygen vacancies, which accelerate the conversion of intermediates and promote the degradation of toluene.

Electronic Modification by Transitional Metal Dopants to Tune the Oxidation Activity of Pt-CeO2-Based Catalysts

Jianghao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of transitional metal dopants on the activity of a Pt/CeO2 catalyst for the oxidation of formaldehyde (HCHO). It is found that different transitional metal dopants can significantly modify the electronic structure of the catalyst and tune the bonding strength of HCHO/intermediates with the Pt-CeO2 interface. The catalyst with moderate bonding strength (i.e., Pt-Mn/CeO2) exhibits the highest reactivity, while the catalyst with the highest bonding strength (i.e., Pt-Cu/CeO2) shows dramatically decreased activity.

A Hydrothermally Stable Single-Atom Catalyst of Pt Supported on High-Entropy Oxide/Al2O3: Structural Optimization and Enhanced Catalytic Activity

Shuaiqi Zhao et al.

Summary: The study presents a single-atom Pt-HEO/Al2O3 catalyst achieved through a sol-gel-assisted mechanical milling strategy, where the strong interaction between HEO and Al2O3 effectively inhibits the growth of HEO microparticles, while another strong interaction between Pt and HEO stabilizes single-atom Pt on HEO. This catalyst shows superior stability against hydrothermal aging and long-term reaction stability for CO catalytic oxidation, exceeding 540 hours, opening up new possibilities for practical applications.

Soot combustion over CeO2 catalyst: the influence of biodiesel impurities (Na, K, Ca, P) on surface chemical properties

Jishuang He et al.

Summary: This study found that Na- and K-doped catalysts have a promoting effect on soot combustion, while Ca- and P-doped catalysts have a negative impact. Doping biodiesel impurities led to a smaller surface area by blocking small pores. Surface chemical properties, including NO oxidation/storage capacity, play a significant role in promoting soot combustion.

Summary: This study examined two types of oxygen vacancies (V-O) and their concentrations in MnO2 catalysts, finding that catalysts with higher concentrations of V-O (FM) exhibited superior reaction rates and stability compared to other types. Additionally, in situ DRIFTS spectra revealed that higher concentrations of V-O (FM) sites accelerated the transformation of intermediates, leading to the oxidation of toluene into CO2 and H2O.

Investigation into the roles of different oxygen species in toluene oxidation over manganese-supported platinum catalysts

Yuhang Sun et al.

Summary: The catalytic oxidation of toluene over Pt/Mn3O4 was investigated to elucidate the roles of different oxygen species. Pt/Mn3O4-R catalyst possessed more surface oxygen vacancies, better redox properties, and dispersion of platinum particles, leading to higher activity for toluene oxidation. Toluene oxidation over Pt/Mn3O4-R might follow the Mars-van Krevelen mechanism with a possible pathway of toluene→benzoate→carbonate→CO2.

Sulphur vacancy derived anaerobic hydroxyl radical generation at the pyrite-water interface: Pollutants removal and pyrite self-oxidation behavior

Cancan Ling et al.

Summary: In anaerobic water environments, FeS2 with sulfur vacancies stabilizes H2O adsorption to compensate for the energy barrier of H2O oxidation on pyrite surfaces. The presence of surface Fe3+ and nearby H2O molecules promotes the oxidation of adsorbed H2O, generating free hydroxyl radicals. These results shed light on the mechanism of anaerobic hydroxyl radical generation on pyrite surfaces and its environmental implications.
