Predicting spatiotemporally-resolved mean air temperature over Sweden from satellite data using an ensemble model

Zhihao Jin et al.

Summary: The study used a three-stage ensemble model incorporating four base models to estimate daily mean air temperature in Sweden from 2001 to 2019. The ensemble model showed high performance with an overall R2 of 0.98 and outperformed each of the four base models. Machine learning models outperformed regression models in predicting air temperature.

Modelling daily air temperature at a fine spatial resolution dealing with challenging meteorological phenomena and topography in Switzerland

Benjamin Flueckiger et al.

Summary: This study successfully captured the temporal and spatial variations in air temperature in Switzerland from 2003 to 2018 using a two-stage approach and random forest models. It also explained the urban heat island effect and typical weather phenomena caused by Switzerland's complex topography, providing valuable data for epidemiological research on the health effects of heat.

A systematic review on the association between total and cardiopulmonary mortality/morbidity or cardiovascular risk factors with long-term exposure to increased or decreased ambient temperature

Sofia Zafeiratou et al.

Summary: The study found that long-term exposure to extreme temperatures is associated with increased total and cardiovascular disease mortality and morbidity. Cardiovascular and respiratory risks are related to temperature, with stronger effects on the elderly and socially deprived populations. Further research is needed to investigate the long-term effects of temperature extremes and their impact on different population groups.

The burden of heat-related mortality attributable to recent human-induced climate change

A. M. Vicedo-Cabrera et al.

Summary: Current and future climate change is projected to have significant impacts on human health through increasing temperatures. A study found that approximately 37% of warm-season heat-related deaths can be attributed to anthropogenic climate change. Urgent mitigation and adaptation strategies are needed to minimize the public health impacts of climate change.
