Short-term effect of ambient air pollutant change on the risk of tuberculosis outpatient visits: a time-series study in Fuyang, China

Xin-Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: There is growing evidence that air pollution, specifically the six common air pollutants, plays a role in the risk of tuberculosis. PM2.5 and SO2 have been found to have a significant association with tuberculosis, and seasonal variations, gender, and age also impact the risk of tuberculosis.

Biomarkers for the adverse effects on respiratory system health associated with atmospheric particulate matter exposure

Caixia Guo et al.

Summary: Epidemiological evidence shows a positive correlation between atmospheric particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure and respiratory diseases, with biomarkers potentially helping to understand the biological mechanisms underlying adverse health outcomes of PM2.5. Inconsistent findings across studies may stem from differences in airborne PM2.5 samples, exposure modes, and methodological issues, warranting further research to identify novel biomarkers and elucidate the causal relationship between PM2.5 pollution and deleterious lung outcomes.

SAM-TB: a whole genome sequencing data analysis website for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis drug resistance and transmission

Tingting Yang et al.

Summary: The study established a free, function-rich, user-friendly online platform (SAM-TB) for analyzing MTB WGS data, which includes drug-resistance prediction, genetic relationship analysis, and NTM species identification. SAM-TB shows high accuracy in predicting drug-resistance, can analyze the genetic relationships between multiple strains, and detect mixed MTB and NTM samples. The platform is of great significance in guiding treatment and epidemiological investigation.

Investigation on the cause of recurrent tuberculosis in a rural area in China using whole-genome sequencing: A retrospective cohort study

Meng Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated recurrent tuberculosis (TB) in rural Wusheng County, Sichuan Province, China. Using whole-genome sequencing (WGS), the researchers found that recurrent TB in this area was mainly due to relapse and associated with drug resistance.

Analysis of Bactericidal Effect of Three Medical Ozonation Dosage Forms on Multidrug-Resistant Bacteria from Burn Patients

Xuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that ozone gas and oil groups were able to completely eliminate multidrug-resistant bacteria within 30 minutes, while the bactericidal effect of the ozone gas group was significantly better than the ozone water and oil groups at 5 and 10 minutes. There was no significant difference in bactericidal effect between the ozone water group and the ozone gas and oil groups after 30 minutes.

Tuberculosis reinfection and relapse in eastern China: a prospective study using whole-genome sequencing

Qiao Liu et al.

Summary: This study in eastern China aimed to evaluate risk factors for tuberculosis recurrence and found that older age, previous tuberculosis treatment, and bilateral cavities were associated with higher risk of recurrence. Endogenous relapse was significantly more common than exogenous reinfection in the first 2 years post-treatment.

Whole genome sequencing based differentiation between re-infection and relapse in Indian patients with tuberculosis recurrence, with and without HIV co-infection

Sivakumar Shanmugam et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of MIRU typing, spoligotyping, and WGS in differentiating between relapse and reinfection in TB recurrence cases. The majority of TB recurrences in HIV-positive patients were due to reinfection, while in HIV-negative patients, relapse was the main cause. WGS provided higher resolution, but the results were consistent with MIRU and spoligotyping.

Summary: This review and meta-analysis found that long-term exposure to PM10, SO2, or NO2 was associated with increased odds of TB, suggesting further research is needed to understand the underlying biological mechanisms of this association.

Short-term effects of ambient air pollution and meteorological factors on tuberculosis in semi-arid area, northwest China: a case study in Lanzhou

Zhaocheng Niu et al.

Summary: The study found that daily TB cases in Chengguan District, Lanzhou, were positively correlated with air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter, as well as meteorological factors like temperature and humidity. Additionally, there were significant interaction effects between air pollutants and meteorological factors on daily TB cases.
