Therapeutic Mechanisms of Berberine to Improve the Intestinal Barrier Function via Modulating Gut Microbiota, TLR4/NF-kappa B/MTORC Pathway and Autophagy in Cats

JingWen Cao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism of berberine in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in cats. The results showed that berberine can alleviate inflammation by modulating the Toll-like receptors 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-kappa B) signaling pathway and activating autophagy. Additionally, berberine significantly reduces the expression of inflammatory cytokines in cats' serum and enhances the antioxidant effect, thereby repairing intestinal barrier function.

Melatonin administration alleviates 2,2,4,4-tetra-brominated diphenyl ether (PBDE-47)-induced necroptosis and secretion of inflammatory factors via miR-140-5p/TLR4/NF-.B axis in fish kidney cells

Xueyu Li et al.

Summary: This study developed fish kidney cell models of PBDE-47 poisoning and/or MEL treatment and found that PBDE-47 exposure resulted in increased cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration, decreased miR-140-5p miRNA level, upregulation of TLR4 and NF-B, triggering of necroptosis and secretion of inflammatory factors. MEL could alleviate PBDE-47-induced toxicity through the regulation of calcium channels and restoration of the miR-140-5p/TLR4/NF-B axis.

Airborne Microplastics: A Review on the Occurrence, Migration and Risks to Humans

Yi Wang et al.

Summary: Microplastics as emerging environmental contaminants may pose potential hazards to the global ecosystem and human health. While there is more research on microplastics in water and soil, studies on airborne microplastics are limited. However, airborne microplastics can also contribute to pollution in aquatic and soil environments, and pose health risks to humans.

Detrimental effects of microplastic exposure on normal and asthmatic pulmonary physiology

Kuo Lu et al.

Summary: Research indicates that exposure to microplastics has detrimental effects on the respiratory system in both healthy and asthmatic mice, causing inflammation, increased mucus production, and immune response disruption. Molecular mechanisms suggest that microplastics may modulate cellular stress and programmed cell death.

Microplastics as an emerging source of particulate air pollution: A critical review

Srinidhi Sridharan et al.

Summary: The accumulation of plastic litter poses pressure on the environment, with microplastics pollution posing a universal challenge due to overexploitation and unsystematic dumping of plastic products. Research initially focused on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, but recent studies have also examined microplastics in the air. Understanding the impacts of airborne microplastics on human health is still limited.
