Response and tolerance ability of Chlorella vulgaris to cadmium pollution stress

Weiwei Geng et al.

Summary: The study found that at different concentrations of Cd, Chlorella vulgaris showed varying levels of resistance to oxidative damage. When the Cd concentration reached 5.0 mg/L, the growth of C. vulgaris was affected, and the cell structure was significantly damaged.

Joint effects of bacterium and biochar in remediation of antibiotic-heavy metal contaminated soil and responses of resistance gene and microbial community

Xiaorong Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel material combining waste fungus chaff-based biochar (WFCB) and Herbaspirillum huttiense (HHS1) was established to immobilize copper and zinc and degrade oxytetracycline and enrofloxacin in soils containing both veterinary antibiotics and heavy metals. The combined material showed high immobilization of copper and zinc and significant removal of oxytetracycline and enrofloxacin. In addition, the material reduced the abundance of certain resistance genes and altered the potential hosts of antibiotic resistance genes.

Textile wastewater bioremediation using immobilized Chlorella sp. Wu-G23 with continuous culture

Jane-Yii Wu et al.

Summary: The immobilized microalga Chlorella sp. Wu-G23 was effectively utilized for bioremediation of textile wastewater, achieving significant removal efficiencies of COD, NH4+-N, and color. Optimal cultivation conditions included initial pH 10, supplemental urea at 1 g/L, and K2HPO4 at 8 mg/L without aeration.

Study on the oxidative stress and transcriptional level in Cr(VI) and Hg(II) reducing strain Acinetobacter indicus yy-1 isolated from chromium-contaminated soil

Liang Hu et al.

Summary: This study isolated a novel Cr(VI) and Hg(II) reducing strain from chromium landfill, showing that A. indicus yy-1 removes Cr(VI) and Hg(II) through reduction. It was found that Hg(II) is more toxic than Cr(VI) to the strain, leading to increased activities of antioxidant enzymes.

Bioremediation of wastewater containing mercury using three newly isolated bacterial strains

Meng M. Zhao et al.

Summary: A bioremediation method was developed to efficiently eliminate mercury pollution in wastewater, utilizing three bacterial strains with strong Hg tolerance and reduction capacities. These bacterial strains can treat 1 ton of wastewater containing 10 mg/L Hg2+ within 48 hours, reaching the national standard of Hg2+ concentration. The strains also showed tolerance and transformation abilities for other heavy metals, indicating their potential for broader applications in heavy metal-contaminated environments.

Isolation and identification of Delftia lacustris Strain-MS3 as a novel and efficient adsorbent for lead biosorption: Kinetics and thermodynamic studies, optimization of operating variables

Mohsen Samimi et al.

Summary: The study isolated and identified lead-resistant bacteria and evaluated their ability to tolerate different concentrations of lead ions. The results showed high accuracy in determining optimal experimental conditions for metal biosorption processes, with lead removal efficiency measured at specific pH, bacterial biomass to lead ratio, and residence time. Kinetic studies matched with pseudo-second-order kinetics, while thermodynamic parameters indicated a spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process.

Arsenic and antimony co-contamination influences on soil microbial community composition and functions: Relevance to arsenic resistance and carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycling

Yongbin Li et al.

Summary: This study explored the adaptability and response of soil microbiome to As and Sb co-contamination in two contrasting sites within the Shimen realgar mine, indicating that geochemical parameters play a key role in shaping community composition and metabolic potentials. Certain bacteria were predicted to be tolerant to high concentrations of As and Sb, and co-occurrence network analysis revealed that genes related to C fixation, nitrate/nitrite reduction, N fixation, and sulfate reduction were positively correlated with As and Sb fractions.
