Fuel characterization, engine performance characteristics and emissions analysis of different mustard seed biodiesel: An overview

Volkan Aslan

Summary: The new technology in the automotive sector depends on the primary energy source, and there is an increasing interest in biofuels as an alternative to fossil fuels. Mustard oil, with its non-edible nature and high mono-unsaturated fatty acid value, has advantages for biodiesel production. However, it also presents challenges in terms of fuel properties, engine performance, and exhaust emissions compared to diesel fuel. This review focuses on these aspects, providing valuable information for policymakers, industrialists, and researchers.

Study on physicochemical properties of biodiesel and Fischer-Tropsch diesel exhaust particle

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the physicochemical properties of exhaust particulate matter (PM) from the combustion of biodiesel, Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) diesel, and diesel. The results show that biodiesel particles have a smaller average particle size, higher relative content of O element, and lower activation energy compared to diesel particles. In addition, F-T diesel particles have the largest size and the loosest arrangement among the three types of particles.

Why is the world not yet ready to use alternative fuel vehicles?

Meisam Ahmadi Ghadikolaei et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the current situation and issues of alternative fuel vehicles, finding that the main barriers lie in their high prices and the lack of knowledge and encouragement for their use. In order to promote the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles, it is crucial to enhance people's knowledge and promote their acceptance of and willingness to use these vehicles.

Oxidation behaviors and nanostructure of particulate matter produced from a diesel engine fueled with n-pentanol and 2-ethylhexyl nitrate additives

Xiaochen Wang et al.

Summary: The experiments conducted on a high pressure common-rail diesel engine using different fuel blends showed that increasing n-pentanol concentration in diesel/n-pentanol mixtures led to higher soot oxidation reactivity. The addition of EHN to DP30 fuel resulted in varying levels of soot oxidation reactivity changes. There was a nonlinear correlation between soot reactivity and nanostructure, indicating that other factors like active surface area and surface functional group could also influence soot oxidation reactivity.

Impact of lower and higher alcohols on the physicochemical properties of particulate matter from diesel engines: A review

Meisam Ahmadi Ghadikolaei et al.

Summary: Research indicates that alcohol fuels can have a significant impact on the physical and chemical properties of particulate matter emitted from diesel engines, resulting in reductions in particle size, number, and mass, as well as changes in organic carbon and elemental carbon levels. Lower alcohols in blended mode have a stronger effect than higher alcohols in fumigation mode on reducing pollutants and improving particle properties.

Effects of biodiesels on the physicochemical properties and oxidative reactivity of diesel particulates: A review

Jiangjun Wei et al.

Summary: The review explores the impact of biodiesel on the physicochemical properties of soot particles from diesel engines, as well as the influence of engine operating conditions on characteristics of soot particles generated by biodiesel-fueled engines. The relationships between soot physicochemical characteristics and soot oxidative reactivity are also examined in this study.
