14-3-3 proteins regulate photomorphogenesis by facilitating light-induced degradation of PIF3

Pengyu Song et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that 14-3-3 lambda and kappa are important positive regulators of photomorphogenesis in plants. They bind to PIF3 and promote the formation of the phyB-PIF3-PPK complex, thereby regulating the light signaling pathway in Arabidopsis.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase cascades in plant signaling

Mengmeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This review provides a historic and recent understanding of the role of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades in plant immunity, response to environmental stresses, and normal growth and development. The signaling specificity of MAPKs in plants is an interesting topic of research and is influenced by factors such as activation kinetics, spatial and temporal expression patterns, and functional characterization of MAPK substrates.

SUMOylation of PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTOR 3 promotes photomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis thaliana

Peter Bernula et al.

Summary: In Arabidopsis thaliana, it was discovered that PIF3 is SUMOylated at the Lys13 residue, affecting its interaction with phyB and influencing photomorphogenesis. The mutant PIF3(K13R) with a SUMO acceptor site shows enhanced biological activity, leading to a promotion of photomorphogenesis.

MiR160 and its target genes ARF10, ARF16 and ARF17 modulate hypocotyl elongation in a light, BRZ, or PAC-dependent manner in Arabidopsis miR160 promotes hypocotyl elongation

Xuehuan Dai et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that miR160 and its target genes ARF10, ARF16, and ARF17 modulate hypocotyl elongation in Arabidopsis in a light, brassinazole (BRZ), or paclobutrazol (PAC)-dependent manner, but have no effect in the dark.ARF10 represses the expression of PACLOBUTRAZOL RESISTANCE1 (PRE1) and 35S::PRE1 partly rescues the phenotype of mARF10, suggesting that PRE1 acts downstream of ARF10 in regulating hypocotyl elongation.

Two bHLH transcription factors, bHLH48 and bHLH60, associate with phytochrome interacting factor 7 to regulate hypocotyl elongation in Arabidopsis

Chuanwei Yang et al.

Summary: The bHLH transcription factors bHLH48 and bHLH60 have been identified as essential partners for PIF7 in regulating hypocotyl elongation, showing DNA binding activity and enhancing PIF7's ability to bind DNA. They act as positive partners of PIF7 in promoting hypocotyl elongation through mutual benefit.

A dual-specificity phosphatase, MAP kinase phosphatase 1, positively regulates blue light-mediated seedling development in Arabidopsis

Deepanjali Verma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the dual-specificity phosphatase MKP1 negatively regulates the activity of MPK6, a key negative regulator of blue light (BL)-mediated photomorphogenic development, by dephosphorylating it. Overexpression of MKP1 enhances BL-induced inhibition of hypocotyl elongation and affects downstream light-related gene expression in response to BL. This highlights the critical role of phosphatases in regulating signaling pathways and identifies the specific role of MKP1 in modulating BL-induced photomorphogenic responses.
