Machine Learning for Plant Stress Modeling: A Perspective towards Hormesis Management

Amanda Kim Rico-Chavez et al.

Summary: Plant stress is a significant factor affecting plant fitness and food production. Hormesis management, which involves controlled exposure of crops to low doses of stressors, shows promise in increasing crop productivity and quality. Machine learning and deep learning have become crucial tools in accurately modeling plant stress responses.

The impact of multifactorial stress combination on plant growth and survival

Sara I. Zandalinas et al.

Summary: Climate change-driven extreme weather events, increasing temperatures, harsh soil conditions, low water availability and quality, and the introduction of man-made pollutants pose a unique challenge to plants. The study reveals that the accumulated impact of multifactorial stress combination on plants is detrimental, and the response of plants to this combination is unique, with specific pathways and processes playing a critical role in plant acclimation. Further pollution of the environment could result in higher complexities of multifactorial stress combinations, leading to a critical decline in plant growth and survival.

Priming Maritime Pine Megagametophytes during Somatic Embryogenesis Improved Plant Adaptation to Heat Stress

Maria Amparo Perez-Oliver et al.

Summary: Heat priming during somatic embryogenesis can establish an epigenetic memory in maritime pine, enhancing heat resilience. Plants treated with heat stress show higher cytokinin content and SOD upregulation, displaying better response to heat stress. This study suggests that priming at 50 degrees C during the SE induction phase is a promising strategy to improve heat resilience in maritime pine.

Relative water content consistently predicts drought mortality risk in seedling populations with different morphology, physiology and times to death

Gerard Sapes et al.

Summary: Predicted increases in forest drought mortality highlight the need for predictors of incipient drought-induced mortality risk that enable proactive large-scale management. Water status indicators are promising candidates for real-time monitoring of DIM, particularly if they standardize morphological differences among plants. Time to incipient mortality differed between populations but occurred at the same relative water content (RWC) and water potential (WP), both of which were accurate predictors of drought mortality risk.

Global Warming, Climate Change, and Environmental Pollution: Recipe for a Multifactorial Stress Combination Disaster

Sara Zandalinas et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that an increase in different co-occurring multifactorial stress factors can result in a severe decline in plant growth and survival, as well as a decrease in microbiome biodiversity. This should serve as a warning for society to take action to reduce pollutants, combat global warming, and increase crop tolerance to multifactorial stress combinations.
