Overexpression of gibberellin 2-oxidase 4 from tall fescue affected plant height, tillering and drought tolerance in rice

Xiaxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study identified FaGA2ox4 as a gene with the highest expression level in tall fescue under drought stress. Transgenic rice plants overexpressing FaGA2ox4 exhibited a dwarf and high-tillering phenotype, and also showed improved drought stress tolerance.

Latest biotechnology tools and targets for improving abiotic stress tolerance in protein legumes

Alexandre Detain et al.

Summary: This article reviews recent advances in biotechnological approaches for improving the tolerance of protein legumes to abiotic stresses such as drought, high salinity, heat and cold, and heavy metal stress. In addition to improvements obtained mainly through transgenesis, the application of tools such as CRISPR/Cas and RNA interference in legumes in the context of abiotic stress tolerance is also discussed, along with a suggested path for gene control in legume plants, organs, or cells by these tools. Promising molecular targets, perspectives, and future directions for enhancing abiotic stress tolerance are also discussed.

GRAS-type transcription factor CaGRAS1 functions as a positive regulator of the drought response in Capsicum annuum

Donghyuk Oh et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers identified a GRAS transcription factor, CaGRAS1, in pepper plants that is induced by ABA, dehydration, and salt stress. They found that overexpression of CaGRAS1 in Arabidopsis resulted in ABA-sensitive and drought-resistant phenotypes, while silencing CaGRAS1 in pepper plants led to a drought-sensitive phenotype. Additionally, they observed that the expression of stress-responsive genes was significantly altered in CaGRAS1-overexpressing and CaGRAS1-silenced plants under drought stress conditions.

Overexpression of OsUGT3 enhances drought and salt tolerance through modulating ABA synthesis and scavenging ROS in rice

Ting Wang et al.

Summary: The glycosyltransferase UGT3 in plants plays an important role in response to drought and salt stresses, by increasing endogenous ABA levels, enhancing antioxidant enzyme activities, and reducing reactive oxygen species production. UGT3 may cope with abiotic stresses through a possible interactive network involving ABA, ROS, and antioxidants.

Genome-wide characterization and expression analysis of TOPP-type protein phosphatases in soybean (Glycine max L.) reveal the role of GmTOPP13 in drought tolerance

Sibo Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified the TOPP-type protein phosphatase family in soybean and investigated the diverse expression patterns of GmTOPP genes under drought stress. Overexpression of GmTOPP13 gene in tobacco plants enhanced drought tolerance by regulating stress-responsive genes.

Nuclear transport factor GmNTF2B-1 enhances soybean drought tolerance by interacting with oxidoreductase GmOXR17 to reduce reactive oxygen species content

Kai Chen et al.

Summary: Drought stress increases ROS formation in plants, affecting soybean yield. Overexpression of GmNTF2B-1 improves drought tolerance by regulating ROS content, while the interaction between GmNTF2B-1 and GmOXR17 enhances nuclear ROS scavenging and drought resistance in soybeans.
