Application and analysis of flip mechanism in the melting process of a triplex-tube latent heat energy storage unit

Fangfei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the flip mechanism is applied to improve the characteristics of uneven melting in the melting process of the triplex-tube latent heat energy storage unit. Numerical simulation is used and verified by experimental data. The results show that a single flip can significantly improve the melting performance of the unit under different dimensionless times. However, the flip has a negative effect on the total heat absorption in one melting cycle. The addition of flip effectively reduces the negative influence of the hard-to-melt zone during the melting process.

Experimental and numerical study of PCM storage integrated with HVAC system for energy flexibility

Yue Hu et al.

Summary: This paper presents experimental and numerical studies on PCM storage integrated with an HVAC system. The research found that the temperature effectiveness of the PCM storage depends more on the PCM quantity rather than the discharge inlet air temperature and airflow rate. Additionally, the study concluded that the energy cost can be reduced by implementing PCM storage while maintaining indoor thermal comfort, with a payback time of seven years compared to HVAC system without PCM.

Experimental investigation of an enhanced transpired air solar collector with embodied phase changing materials

Cristiana Croitoru et al.

Summary: This study investigates an innovative enhanced solar air collector with integrated phase changing materials (PCM) through experimental approach, aiming to increase the operating period and overall efficiency. The experimental data shows that the collector with PCM can achieve a higher temperature increase of 8.8% and a higher coefficient of performance by 10.6% compared to the collector without PCM. Additionally, the collector with PCM has a longer operating time and a higher coefficient of performance.

Effect of using a solar hot air collector installed on the inclined roof of a building for cooling and heating system in the presence of polymeric PCM

Saeed Alqaed

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of using a polymeric phase change material (PCM) in a solar hot air collector on residential heating and cooling. The results show that increasing the collector length can raise the outflow air temperature, and the inlet air temperature has a significant effect on the outlet temperature. The use of PCM can reduce the outlet air temperature in the early hours of the day but enhance it in the last hours of the day. The system can heat a 95-m2 residential unit and provide 41% of the energy required.
