Off-farm work, cooking energy choice and time poverty in Ghana: An empirical analysis

Edward Martey et al.

Summary: This article examines the impact of off-farm work on cooking energy choice and time poverty in Ghana. Using data from the GLSS, the study controls for various sociodemographic and geographic factors and finds that an increase in off-farm work is associated with a decrease in the use of dirty fuel and an increase in the use of clean fuel, as well as an increase in time poverty. The findings suggest that consumption expenditure is an important factor through which off-farm work influences cooking energy choice and time poverty.

Relationships between household characteristics and electricity end-use in Japanese residential apartments

Le Na Tran et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electricity consumption patterns of 12 households in electric-only apartments in Kitakyushu, Japan, and finds significant relationships between household characteristics and electricity end-use. The results indicate that energy-related behavior is closely linked to room function and appliance ownership, with energy distribution varying according to lifestyle. This research lays a foundation for applying energy monitors and household surveys to analyze household energy-related lifestyles, and suggests a combination of experiments, surveys, and questionnaires for future studies on energy-saving strategies.
