Non-polar ether-based electrolyte solutions for stable high-voltage non-aqueous lithium metal batteries

Zheng Li et al.

Summary: Ether solvents have poor anodic stabilities in lithium metal batteries. Here, the authors propose a non-aqueous electrolyte solution with a non-polar and non-fluorinated ether solvent. The electrolyte enables stable cycling of high-voltage Li metal batteries in pouch cell configuration.

Guided lithium nucleation and growth on lithiophilic tin-decorated copper substrate

Lang Ye et al.

Summary: The study develops an ultrathin Sn-decorated Cu substrate (Sn@Cu) to induce ordered Li nucleation and growth behavior, which lowers the Li nucleation overpotential and promotes fast Li-migration kinetics, resulting in dendrite-free Li deposition with large granular morphology and improved Coulombic efficiency and cycling performance of lithium batteries. The Sn@Cu electrode exhibits a prolonged lifespan and low overpotential in high current density conditions. The research also demonstrates enhanced cycling stability and rate performance when paired with a commercial LiFePO4 cathode.
