A sustainable approach to synthesize phosphonated chitosan using ball milling and its application for oilfield scale management

Mohamed F. Mady et al.

Summary: Chitosan is an important material in the oil and gas industry, and the synthesis of phosphonated chitosan has shown promising results in inhibiting calcium carbonate scaling. In this study, phosphonated chitosan was synthesized using the ball-milling technique and compared with other scale inhibitors. Experimental results showed that phosphonated chitosan exhibited excellent inhibition efficiency against oilfield scales.

Searching for a universal scale inhibitor: A multi-scale approach towards inhibitor efficiency

Argyro Spinthaki et al.

Summary: Scale inhibition is crucial for geothermal energy harvesting to prevent equipment failures caused by precipitation. The inhibitor PEGPHOS-LOW, with both PEG and PHOS side-chains, was found to be the most efficient in preventing the formation of various scales in artificial geothermal brines. This inhibitor shows promise for successful application in diverse conditions.

Homologous alkyl side-chain diphosphonate inhibitors for the corrosion protection of carbon steels

Argyri Moschona et al.

Summary: The study found that short alkyl chain diphosphonates (C1-D, C2-D, C4-D) with thin, porous and/or incomplete layers on carbon steel surface exhibited lower corrosion resistance, while longer alkyl chain molecules (C6-D, C8-D, C12-D) demonstrated higher adsorption efficiency and formed more organized and thicker layers. Among them, C8-D showed the best performance with significantly reduced corrosion rate.
