Data-driven simulation-based planning for electric airport shuttle systems: A real-world case study

Zhaocai Liu et al.

Summary: Many airports are adopting battery electric buses in their shuttle fleets to address concerns over air quality and regulations. This study presents a simulation-based optimization modeling framework to assist airport shuttle operators in deploying electric buses efficiently. By using empirical data and a simulation-driven approach, the model determines the optimal battery capacity, charging power, and number of chargers to minimize capital costs and emissions. The proposed framework demonstrates its effectiveness through extensive numerical studies at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Sustainable charging schedule of electric buses in a University Campus: A horizon

Leticia A. L. Zaneti et al.

Summary: The growing concerns about climate change and finite energy resources have led to a shift towards environmentally friendly and energy efficient products and processes. This study proposes an optimization model to minimize the operational costs of a sustainable charging station for electric buses. The results demonstrate that the optimization model is cost effective and the inclusion of photovoltaic panels and battery energy storage system can further reduce operational costs.

A joint optimisation model for charger locating and electric bus charging scheduling considering opportunity fast charging and uncertainties

Hao Hu et al.

Summary: This paper examines the problem of optimizing the deployment of fast chargers at bus stops and developing charging schedules for electric buses, considering time-varying electricity prices and penalty costs. The numerical results show the feasibility of deploying fast chargers at intermediate and last stops and the benefits of frequent charging activities during bus service trips. Electric buses outperform conventional diesel buses in terms of energy consumption costs.
