Spontaneous combustion and oxidation kinetic characteristics of alkaline-water-immersed coal

Purui Li et al.

Summary: Most scholars studied the self-ignition of water-immersed coal using distilled-water-immersed coal, but mine water is mostly alkaline. This research explores the influence of alkaline mine water on the self-ignition properties of water-immersed coal. The experimental results showed that alkaline-water-immersed coals had higher CO productions and lower apparent activation energies compared to distilled-water-immersed coals, indicating that alkaline-water-immersed coal has a greater self-ignition ability.

Experimental study of the influence of water on spontaneous combustion of coal containing pyrite

Xueming Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of water content on the spontaneous combustion characteristics of coal containing pyrite through experimental analysis. The results showed that increasing water content led to higher water loss end temperature and initial reaction temperature, shorter interval between them, and a decrease in the maximum weight loss rate temperature. Adding water reduced the activation energy and changed the reaction mechanism of the coal sample. The combustion process mainly produced SO2, CO2, and H2O, with SO2 being the primary gas. Overall, water content has a significant effect on the spontaneous combustion characteristics of coal.

Experimental research on the characteristics of the secondary oxidation heat of different unloaded coals

Rongkun Pan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the thermal characteristics of unloaded coal under different stress conditions using a microcalorimeter. The results showed that as stress increased and oxidation degree rose, the heat release temperature, heat release, and activation energy of coal exhibited specific trends. The findings suggest that preoxidized coal samples are more susceptible to oxidation when reoxidized under increasing stress.

Microstructure of coal spontaneous combustion in low-oxygen atmospheres at characteristic temperatures

Jing-Yu Zhao et al.

Summary: The study focused on the evolution of coal microstructure during coal spontaneous combustion in an oxygen-lean atmosphere. It examined the sensitivities of different active functional groups to oxygen concentrations and their impact on the gas concentration release characteristics. The results indicated that certain active functional groups, such as -CH2 and -CH3, were highly correlated with CSC characteristic parameters.

Gas-liquid competitive adsorption characteristics and coal wetting mechanism under different pre-adsorbed gas conditions

Leilei Si et al.

Summary: Investigation on coal-water contact angle and its microscopic wetting mechanism under different gas environments was conducted. The results showed that the contact angle gradually increased within a certain pressure range. The contact angle increased significantly in the CH4 atmosphere, transitioning the wettability from hydrophilic to hydrophobic. Molecular dynamics simulation revealed that the adsorption capacity of water molecules decreased with increasing gas pressure, resulting in the poor wetting of coal-water due to the gas adsorption layer and competitive adsorption.

Experimental study on chemical structure and wetting influence of imidazole ionic liquids on coal

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of cation and anion ions in ionic liquids on functional groups and coal wettability. The results showed that the ions in ionic liquids significantly altered the framework of the coal and improved the coal's wetting behavior. Additionally, the content of C=O and OH... groups had the greatest correlation with the contact angle.

Equilibrium pricing for carbon emission in response to the target of carbon emission peaking

Zhehao Huang et al.

Summary: This paper formulates an equilibrium carbon price by setting up a stochastic equilibrium model, revealing the intrinsic link of carbon price to other variables and parameters. The research finds that the carbon price jumps at the deadline of the abatement period and is affected by the economic growth rate and negative effect of climate warming, leading to bifurcation phenomena. These findings are of great importance for achieving the abatement target.

Zhilin Xi et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the dehydration process and oxygen consumption of coal with different moisture content during self-heating. It reveals the order of dehydration for chemically adsorbed water and evaluates the oxidation processes involved. The results provide insights into the self-heating behavior of coal and the catalytic role of adsorbed water in the oxidation process.

Critical particle size analysis of gas emission under high-temperature oxidation of weathered coal

Jiajia Song et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of particle size on gases emitted from weathered coal under high-temperature oxygen deficiency, revealing that the concentration of indicator gas did not monotonically increase or decrease with the change in particle size. A particle size of 3 mm was determined to be the critical size during high-temperature oxidation of weathered coal. The results provided a pivotal theoretical basis for the early prediction and scientific prevention of the spontaneous combustion of weathered coal.

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: Micro-FTIR spectroscopy was used to study the correlation between surface chemistry and hydrophobicity of low rank coal. Functional group ratios derived from the spectra were proposed as indicators of hydrophobicity, revealing heterogeneity in hydrophobicity among low rank coal samples.

Comparative analysis of exothermic behaviour of fresh and weathered coal during low-temperature oxidation

Jia-Jia Song et al.

Summary: Spontaneous combustion of weathered coal is a major hazard in coal-rich countries. The thermal conduction characteristics of weathered coal are enhanced compared to fresh coal, with distinct exothermic characteristics during low-temperature oxidation. The results can provide a basis for the prevention and control of spontaneous combustion of weathered coal.

Study on the Effect and Mechanism of Water Immersion on the Characteristic Temperature during Coal Low-Temperature Oxidation

Xiaowei Zhai et al.

Summary: The study found that the characteristic temperatures of DWIC samples were lower than those of raw coal samples in the early stages of low-temperature oxidation, but the differences first increased and then decreased as the temperature rose. Immersion in water reduced the coal's specific surface area, increased the average diameter of its pores, and increased the total pore volume, which facilitated oxygen migration and transport. The hydroxyl concentration in DWIC was higher compared to raw coal during the entire low-temperature oxidation stage, promoting the initial reaction of coal and oxygen.

Effect of oxidation temperature and oxygen concentration on macro characteristics of pre-oxidised coal spontaneous combustion process

Hui-Fei Lu et al.

Summary: Pre-oxidised coal has poorer ignition performance and burnout capacity compared to raw coal. However, its combustion rate and short-term combustion intensity are higher than raw coal. The temperature at which thermal release occurs rapidly for pre-oxidised coal lags behind raw coal, and its maximum thermal release power is less than that of raw coal.

Re-ignition characteristics of the long-flame coal affected by high-temperature oxidization & water immersion

Yong-liang Xu et al.

Summary: The research showed that pre-oxidation and water-immersion could increase the number and diameter of pores in coal, as well as enhance the coal's oxygen reaction capacity and content of functional groups. Coal samples under pre-oxidation and water-immersion conditions were more prone to re-ignition and had higher heat release.
