Competitive business model of photovoltaic solar energy installers in Brazil

Paula D. Rigo et al.

Summary: In Brazil, the number of active photovoltaic installers has significantly increased in the last three years, but the Net Metering system may reduce benefits, prompting the need for a competitive business model. Research shows that some companies lack competitiveness in large-scale photovoltaic plants, but there are potential business opportunities in condominiums, cooperatives, or the free market.

Stochastic approach for economic viability of photovoltaic systems with battery storage for big electricity consumers in the regulated marketin Brazil

Delberis A. Lima et al.

Summary: In Brazil, the Net-metering scheme is like a Photovoltaic system that uses the power grid as a virtual battery due to government incentives. When the incentives run out, it can trigger a market for consumers to have their own batteries. The Lithium-ion battery storage systems market has great potential due to the decrease in battery prices.

The role and benefits of residential rooftop photovoltaic prosumers in Brazil

Andrigo Filippo Antoniolli et al.

Summary: Residential rooftop PV adoption in Brazil and other sunbelt countries has seen a widespread increase due to the decreasing costs of PV technology. A case-study conducted in Florianópolis-Brazil evaluated the role and benefits of residential rooftop PV to prosumers. The study found that PV integration led to a reduction in utility's electricity consumption and an increase in prosumer's consumption, while significantly reducing the utility's expenses. The adoption of rooftop PV in Brazil was demonstrated to be advantageous, with decreasing payback times.

Total solar irradiance's effect on the performance of empirical models for estimating global solar radiation: An empirical-based review

Javier Almorox et al.

Summary: This study reviewed Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) and Solar Constant (SC), reevaluated them, and developed new seasonal radiation coefficient sets. It recommended using a TSI value of 1361 W m(-2) in solar radiation models for accuracy, highlighting the importance of local and seasonal calibration coefficients.

A review of sensitivity analysis practices in wind resource assessment

Olga Tsvetkova et al.

Summary: The review provides an overview of sensitivity analysis in wind resource assessment, highlighting the lack of consensus in defining sensitivity analysis, the prevalence of nonlinear models, and the common pitfalls in the field. It calls for a rethinking on how to conduct sensitivity analysis and includes a comparison of one-at-a-time and global sensitivity analysis methods for linear and nonlinear models.

Impact of tax and tariff incentives on the economic viability of residential photovoltaic systems connected to energy distribution network in Brazil

Pedro Drumond Jr et al.

Summary: The study evaluated fiscal and tariff incentives granted for a 4-kW residential system in 35 distribution companies in Brazil for different regulatory scenarios. Results show that the amount of incentives provided is strongly dependent on tariff composition in each energy distribution company. Most companies' tax exemptions already exceed the system cost, and the current regulatory framework results in incentives higher than the system cost for all 35 distribution companies.
