Hydroelastic Investigation on A Pile Breakwater Integrated with A Flexible Tail for Long-Wave Attenuation

Zhang Chong-wei et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel concept of defending long waves by integrating a flexible tail to the lee-side surface of a pile breakwater. A numerical model is established to investigate its performance, which is validated through experimental data. The study finds that the length and stiffness of the tail can affect the wave-attenuation performance of the breakwater, and optimizing the deformation and stiffness of the tail can restrain the maximum stress.

Assessment of uncertainties and variations in PV modules degradation rates and lifetime predictions using physical models

Ismail Kaaya et al.

Summary: Prediction of PV modules' service lifetimes is crucial for manufacturers to set realistic warranties and for researchers to improve materials' durability. Uncertainties in degradation rates determination come from climate variables estimation, PV modules reliability, and degradation rate models. Module temperature estimation leads to the highest uncertainties in degradation rates, while UV modeling shows the least effect. Variations due to different PV module reliability and degradation rate models can be as high as 65.5% and 59.4%, respectively.

Effects of marine environment on electrical output characteristics of PV module

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: In the context of green ships, solar photovoltaic technology plays a key role in the shipping industry. Factors such as salt spray and seawater have varying impacts on the electrical output of PV modules. Experimental results showed that salt spray can reduce the maximum power output by approximately 6%, while seawater can increase it by about 20%. These findings provide a basis for further research on environmental disturbance suppression methods for PV modules.
