Promotional effect of addition of ceria over yttria-zirconia supported Ni based catalyst system for hydrogen production through dry reforming of methane

Mayankkumar L. Chaudhary et al.

Summary: The idea of hydrogen production through dry reforming of methane (DRM) is excellent for decreasing greenhouse gas concentration. The addition of ceria to the yttria-zirconia supported nickel catalyst enhances its catalytic activity. The addition of 2 wt% ceria reduces the crystallinity of metallic nickel, increases the CH4 decomposition sites and oxygen mobility, resulting in a 79% H2 yield.

The Effect of Calcination Temperature on Various Sources of ZrO2 Supported Ni Catalyst for Dry Reforming of Methane

Ahmed Aidid Ibrahim et al.

Summary: The performance of dry reforming catalysts is influenced by the source of ZrO2 support and calcination temperature. Increasing the calcination temperature decreases the activity of the catalysts when the average conversion is higher than 40%. However, the impact of calcination temperature does not constantly decrease for low activity catalysts with an average conversion of less than 40%.

Unified mechanistic understanding of CO2 reduction to CO on transition metal and single atom catalysts

Sudarshan Vijay et al.

Summary: The study investigates the activity of transition metals, metal-nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts, and supported phthalocyanine in the CO2 electroreduction to CO, and presents a unified mechanistic picture. It is found that MNCs have similar electron transfer properties to TMs in CO2 conversion, but can be limited by either CO2 star adsorption or proton-electron transfer reactions. The increased activity of MNC catalysts is attributed to the stabilization of larger adsorbate dipoles due to their discrete and narrow d states.

Nature of the Active Sites on Ni/CeO2 Catalysts for Methane Conversions

Pablo G. Lustemberg et al.

Summary: Research has shown that cationic Ni atoms in clusters at step edges on the CeO2(111) surface are the most active sites for methane conversion reactions, with their small size and high Ni chemical potential contributing to their activity. Density functional theory calculations have clarified the reasons behind this observation, highlighting the importance of the size and morphology of supported Ni nanoparticles, strong Ni-support bonding, and charge transfer at step edges for high catalytic activity, particularly in the activation barrier for C-H bond cleavage during CH4 dissociative adsorption. This knowledge is expected to inspire the development of more efficient catalysts for these reactions.
