A Review of Grid Connection Requirements for Photovoltaic Power Plants

Yandi G. Landera et al.

Summary: The increasing penetration of renewable energy in modern power grids has led to updates in regulations, standards, and grid codes for ancillary services provided by photovoltaic-generating units. This paper presents a comprehensive survey comparing requirements related to voltage ride through, reactive current injection/absorption, active power restoration, frequency stability regulation, active power control, voltage regulation, reactive power control, and energy quality requisites in various countries. The survey highlights the differences in grid codes requirements based on the power system characteristics, technological development, and renewable energy penetration level, making global standardization of renewable energy interconnection requirements more challenging.

A Review of Microgrid Energy Management Strategies from the Energy Trilemma Perspective

Trinadh Pamulapati et al.

Summary: The energy sector is experiencing a paradigm shift in all stages, driven by the increase in renewable energy sources, technological advancements, and the active nature of distribution system components. This has led to the development of microgrid energy systems requiring efficient energy management systems (EMSs) to address the intermittency and controllability challenges. Recent studies have widely used multi-agent systems (MASs) and model predictive control (MPC) approaches, which offer advantages in addressing most EMS challenges and providing affordable, flexible, and secure microgrid operation.

An optimal stochastic energy management system for resilient microgrids

Jessica Alice A. Silva et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a stochastic mixed-integer nonlinear programming model for the optimal energy management system of unbalanced three-phase AC microgrids. The model considers random variables such as nodal demands, renewable generation, and voltage reference, aiming to provide resilient solutions via contingency constraints. By transforming the model into a mixed-integer linear programming model, it can be solved using off-the-shelf convex programming solvers. Tests on real microgrid data show that the model produces resilient day-ahead energy management solutions while minimizing costs and maximizing the use of renewable energy sources.
