High-performance in n-type PbTe-based thermoelectric materials achieved by synergistically dynamic doping and energy filtering

Hang-Tian Liu et al.

Summary: By introducing Ag2Te and dynamically doping silver into n-type Pb0.975Cr0.025Te, a peak figure of merit of 1.5 at 773K was achieved. The high value is attributed to the synergistic optimization of carrier and phonon transports. Ag2Te nanoprecipitates establish coherent interfaces with the matrix to induce energy-dependent carrier scattering and maintain relatively high carrier mobility, leading to optimal electrical-transport properties over a wide temperature range.

Achieving extensive lossless coupling of photovoltaic and thermoelectric devices through parallel connection

Ershuai Yin et al.

Summary: This paper investigates lossless coupling methods for photovoltaic and thermoelectric devices in hybrid systems. The performance of three connection modes (electrically separated, series, and parallel) are experimentally compared, and the electrical-thermal interaction characteristics are investigated with theoretical methods. The results demonstrate that parallel connection achieves extensive lossless coupling and is more stable compared to series connection.

Economic configuration optimization of onboard annual thermoelectric generators under multiple operating conditions

WenChao Zhu et al.

Summary: This paper establishes an advanced non-isothermal mathematical model of automobile annular thermoelectric generators (ATEGs) using the finite element method. The effects of different vehicle operating conditions on the optimal thermoelectric semiconductor volume are investigated, and the optimal range for selecting the thermocouple volume is determined. Two new schemes are proposed to optimize the system configuration and a new method for assessing the power generation cost is proposed. The optimal design is obtained and the results show its advantages in net power and efficiency.

Performance comparison of annular and flat-plate thermoelectric generators for cylindrical hot source

Mengjun Zhang et al.

Summary: This study compares the performances of annular thermoelectric generator (ATEG) and flat-plate thermoelectric generator (FTEG) with varying inlet temperature, velocity, and convective heat transfer coefficient when applied to cylindrical heat sources. The results show that both the output power and conversion efficiency of ATEG and FTEG increase with higher inlet velocity, temperature, and convective heat transfer coefficient. ATEG consistently exhibits higher conversion efficiency than FTEG, especially when the inlet temperature and/or convective heat transfer coefficient are relatively larger.
