One-body style photo-supercapacitors based on Ni(OH)2/TiO2 heterojunction array: High specific capacitance and ultra-fast charge/discharge response

Peng Chen et al.

Summary: This work presents a type of one-body photo-supercapacitors with high specific capacitance and ultrafast response, utilizing TiO2 as the photoelectric conversion material and Ni(OH)2 as the energy storage material. The results show improved performance compared to previous works, attributed to the direct storage and release of charges in the loose Ni(OH)2 structure. This study offers a simple fabrication process for high-performance PSs for direct solar energy storage and serves as a reference for the application of other materials in PSs.

All-perovskite tandem solar cells with improved grain surface passivation

Renxing Lin et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed ammonium-cation-passivated Pb-Sn perovskites with long diffusion lengths, enabling high-efficiency all-perovskite tandem solar cells. By enhancing the adsorption of the passivator using a stronger surface-passivator interaction, the carrier diffusion length within Pb-Sn perovskites is doubled, resulting in an efficiency of over 22%. The certified efficiency of 26.4% achieved in the all-perovskite tandem solar cells exceeds that of the best-performing single-junction perovskite solar cells.

Crystal orientation-dependent etching and trapping in thermally-oxidised Cu2O photocathodes for water splitting

Wenzhe Niu et al.

Summary: Ammonia solution etching of cuprous oxide photocathode devices results in enhanced photoelectrochemical performance and improved reproducibility. The etching process also leads to diverse morphologies of Cu2O crystals based on different crystallographic orientations. Metallic copper traps are found to limit the photoelectrochemical performance.

A Capacitor-type Faradaic Junction for Direct Solar Energy Conversion and Storage

Pin Wang et al.

Summary: A new two-electrode solar rechargeable device based on Si/WO3 junction is reported, which can achieve dark discharge without bias and has the highest dark output power among all two-electrode devices. The device exhibits photoinduced adjustable interface barrier height during charge transfer, overcoming energy barriers and realizing dark discharge without bias. The Si/WO3 is designated as a capacitor-type Faradaic junction due to its interface characteristics.

Facet-dependent CO2 reduction reactions on kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 photo-electro-integrated electrodes

Ruifen Zhang et al.

Summary: By utilizing density functional theory, it was predicted that a (220)-facet-suppressed kesterite CZTS could be an efficient photo-electro-integrated photocathode for formic acid production in CO2 reduction. The study also found that the density of low energy unoccupied states in the S 3p orbital plays a key role in determining the CO2 reduction reaction path of the kesterite CZTS.

Faradaic junction and isoenergetic charge transfer mechanism on semiconductor/semiconductor interfaces

Mingzhi Chen et al.

Summary: The authors propose a Faradaic junction theory with isoenergetic charge transfer at semiconductor/semiconductor interfaces to explain abnormal results that cannot be well explained by the classic energy band alignment theory. This theory involves coupled electron and ion transfer, providing a new perspective for designing solar conversion devices with high efficiency beyond the Shockley-Queisser limit.
