Surface plasma-induced tunable nitrogen doping through precursors provides 1T-2H MoSe2/graphene sheet composites as electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction

Shih-Yu Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a surface plasma-induced tunable nitrogen doping technique was presented to convert 2H phase into a coexisting 1T-2H phase in MoSe2 nanosheets. The N-doped MoSe2 was then combined with graphene sheets to synthesize N-doped 1T-2H MoSe2/G composites for the hydrogen evolution reaction. It was found that the amount of 1T phase in the composites could be controlled by selecting suitable nitrogen precursors, and the composites exhibited highly active sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction.

Surface-Plasma-Induced One-Pot Synthesis of N,S-Carbon Dot Intercalated MoS2/Graphene Nanosheets for Highly Efficient Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Van Dien Dang et al.

Summary: In this study, a facile and rapid surface-plasma-induced method was used to synthesize a 2D/0D/2D hybrid nanostructure of N,S co-doped carbon dots intercalated few-layer MoS2/graphene nanosheets as a catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The ternary composite of NSCD@MoS2/G showed superior catalytic activity, low onset potential, and high stability, with evidence of large catalytic edge sites and electrical coupling. This approach opens up new possibilities for the synthesis of efficient heterostructures with potential energy-related applications.

Enhanced electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction by injection of photogenerated electrons in Ag/WS2 nanohybrids

Pratik M. Pataniya et al.

Summary: An active catalyst based on photosensitive Ag/WS2 hybrids has been developed for effective and rapid hydrogen evolution with low over potential. The injection of photogenerated electrons and exciton generation in WS2 nanosheets significantly reduces the over potential and enhances current density. This research advocates activating intrinsic electrocatalytic activities of semiconducting materials to promote the use of renewable energy sources.

Investigation of the mechanical properties and fracture mechanisms of graphene/WSe2 vertical heterostructure: A molecular dynamics study

Emdadul Haque Chowdhury et al.

Summary: Assembling vertically stacked heterostructures of layered materials has become a convenient way to fabricate novel architectures with advanced functionalities. Using molecular dynamics simulations, this study characterizes the tensile mechanical properties of a graphene/WSe2 vertical heterostructure at different temperatures and loading directions, revealing differences in strength and failure mechanisms. The results show that the WSe2 monolayer's tensile strength is significantly improved when supported by graphene, and the study also discloses the intriguing chirality in mechanical properties of the heterostructure.
