Formation of sunken hexagonal TiO2 nanotube-clusters in sol electrolyte

Shaoyu Zhang et al.

Summary: Sunken hexagonal TiO2 nanotube-clusters were prepared by anodizations in sol electrolyte, with nanotube-clusters separated by compact dams to increase adhesion between the TiO2 nanotube layer and substrate. The formation mechanism of TNS was shown to involve the initial formation of oxygen bubbles at the bottom of the nanotubes, subsequent escape of the bubbles and emergence as large bubbles on the surface under micelles, resulting in the formation of sunken TiO2 nanotube-clusters under the pressure of large oxygen bubbles.

The growth rate of nanotubes and the quantity of charge during anodization

Xin Li et al.

Summary: Porous anodic oxides, with their unique morphology and porous structure, have attracted significant attention. In this study, the growth of porous oxides of Ti and Zr at different voltages were investigated to understand the formation mechanism. The results showed that ZrO2 nanotubes exhibit a higher growth rate and longer length compared to TiO2 nanotubes. The difference in growth rate was found to be related to the quantity of charge, as indicated by the integral of the current-time curve. Interestingly, the findings contradict the classical field-assisted dissolution theory, and can be explained by the oxygen bubble model and electronic current theory.

Enhanced interfacial adhesion between TiO2 and underlying Ti substrate and its mechanism in boric acid contained electrolyte

Rufeng Tian et al.

Summary: Boric acid is added to the electrolyte to adjust the growth process of TiO2 nanotubes and improve their adhesion to the titanium substrate. The formation of a complex with F(-) results in the slow release of F(-), leading to a slower growth rate of the nanotubes and inhibition of the fluoride-rich TiO2 layer that causes poor adhesion. The improved adhesion is attributed to the combined effect of the fluoride ion enrichment theory and the residual stress theory. Additionally, the addition of boric acid significantly enhances the photoelectric catalytic performance and capacitance area of the TiO2 nanotube arrays.

The effect of atmospheric pressure on the growth rate of TiO2 nanotubes: Evidence against the field-assisted dissolution theory

Pengze Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that reducing the atmospheric pressure during anodizing can enhance the growth rate of TiO2 nanotubes under the same conditions of NH4F electrolyte, current density, and temperature. Moreover, increasing the NH4F concentration results in higher porosity but lower growth rate of the nanotubes under the same temperature and current density conditions. These findings contradict the FAD theory and support the oxygen bubble model.

Eliminating the irregular surface layer of anodically-grown Ni-Ti-O nanopore arrays in a two-stage anodization

S. A. Mousavi et al.

Summary: Anodizing nitinol alloy in a two-stage process (static and stirred electrolyte) can remove irregular surface arrays while achieving thick nanopores, with the static electrolyte providing controlled thickness and the stirred electrolyte reducing irregularity. This method results in nanopores with almost 40 nm in diameter and 11 μm in layer thickness, making it suitable for applications requiring higher surface areas.

Qualitative and quantitative recognition method of drug-producing chemicals based on SnO2 gas sensor with dynamic measurement and PCA weak separation

Hanyang Ji et al.

Summary: In this study, a solution to the problem of detecting drug-producing chemicals through dynamic measurement using semiconductor gas sensors was proposed. By utilizing techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA), k-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), and polynomial regression, the sensor's performance in recognizing type and concentration information was improved. The feasibility of the method was verified by using the inverse transformation of PCA, resulting in successful qualitative and quantitative recognition of various drug-producing chemicals.

Anodization of aluminum in a sealed container

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: The pressure during sealed anodization plays a significant role in the morphology of the resulting anodic alumina, with porous alumina being formed under sealed conditions in contrast to nanotubes under normal pressure. This phenomenon is explained by the oxygen bubble mould theory, where oxygen gas is assumed to be key in the anodizing process and the volume expansion of oxygen bubbles promotes rapid upward growth of the anodic oxide.
