Isolation, Identification, and Pathogenicity of Aeromonas veronii, the Causal Agent of Hemorrhagic Septicemia in Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) in China

Gaixiao Qin et al.

Summary: This study isolated a pathogenic strain ZZ051 from hemorrhagic channel catfish and identified it as Aeromonas veronii using physiological and biochemical methods, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and MALDI-TOF-MS analysis. The isolated strain was confirmed to be the causative agent of the catfish disease through artificial infection. It was highly sensitive to enrofloxacin but resistant to florfenicol. This research provides a theoretical basis for preventing and controlling hemorrhagic disease in channel catfish.

Comparative proteomic analysis reveals novel potential virulence factors ofAeromonas veronii

Bin-Tong Yang et al.

Summary: The study compared the proteomes of virulent, attenuated, and avirulent strains of A. veronii and identified differentially expressed proteins mainly involved in pathways associated with bacterial chemotaxis and microbial metabolism. The expression levels of certain proteins were positively correlated with the virulence of strains, suggesting their potential role as virulence factors. The results of the study may contribute to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of A. veronii.

Dual RNA-Seq of Trunk Kidneys Extracted From Channel Catfish Infected With Yersinia ruckeri Reveals Novel Insights Into Host-Pathogen Interactions

Yibin Yang et al.

Summary: The study on the host-pathogen interaction between channel catfish and Yersinia ruckeri revealed the dynamic regulation of the transcriptome during infection, with significant upregulation of immune-related pathways. Specifically, the infection was found to be closely related to metabolic pathways, and the pathogenesis promoted by Y. ruckeri in channel catfish was mainly through the flagellum gene fliC. This research contributes to understanding how catfish respond to infection and develop enteric red mouth disease (ERM) through a transcriptional perspective.

Dissecting Host-Pathogen Interactions in TB Using Systems-Based Omic Approaches

Khushboo Borah et al.

Summary: Tuberculosis is a devastating infectious disease that kills over a million people annually, with increasing challenges of multi and extensively drug resistant strains. Host-pathogen interactions, metabolic cross talk, and advancements in systems-based omic technologies play critical roles in TB research and offer promising interventions for anti-TB therapies.

Alpk1 Sensitizes Pancreatic Beta Cells to Cytokine-Induced Apoptosis via Upregulating TNF-a Signaling Pathway

Fei Ding et al.

Summary: The findings suggest that Alpk1 plays a crucial role in cytokine-induced beta cell apoptosis and its activation can exacerbate cytokine-induced apoptosis by potentiating the TNF-α signaling pathway. Additionally, Alpk1 activation may further induce the expression of proteins such as TNF-α and Fas, contributing to beta cell failure and T1D development. Treatment with GLP-1 receptor agonist could decrease TNF-α and Fas expression, improving the survival of beta cells exposed to pro-inflammatory cytokines and ADP heptose.
