Summary: The gut microbiome and resistome of chronic diarrhea rhesus macaques (RMs) were found to differ significantly from asymptomatic individuals. There was a depletion of Lactobacillus spp. and an increase in mucin-degrading bacteria and opportunistic pathogens in the guts of chronic diarrhea RMs. The metabolic pathways of chronic diarrhea RMs were enriched in aerobactin biosynthesis, while those of asymptomatic RMs were enriched in the production of short-chain fatty acids.

Distribution and ecological risk assessment of typical antibiotics in the surface waters of seven major rivers, China

Summary: China ranks highest in the world in terms of consumption and production of antibiotics, leading to significant concerns over their occurrence in the environment. The rivers in China, playing a vital role in the country's sustainable development, are found to have high levels and detection frequencies of antibiotics. A comprehensive review of antibiotic concentrations in seven major river systems in China from 2010 to 2020 showed that 70 antibiotics have been detected, with different ecological risk levels among the rivers.
