Does obesity lead to loneliness and perceived social isolation in the second half of life? Findings from a nationally representative study in Germany

Andre Hajek et al.

Summary: The study found that the end of obesity was associated with decreases in perceived social isolation among women, but not in men (with significant sex differences). The onset of obesity was not associated with changes in perceived social isolation, and neither the beginning nor end of obesity was associated with changes in loneliness.

Inequality of weight status in urban Cuba: 2001-2010

Peng Nie et al.

Summary: The study analyzed changes in body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) distributions among urban Cuban adults over a 9-year period. The results showed a clear rightward shift in both BMI and WC distributions, leading to increased general and central obesity. Obesity inequality worsened over the 2001-2010 time period, primarily driven by within-group inequality.
