Extreme temperatures and residential electricity consumption: Evidence from Chinese households

Summary: This study estimates the impact of extreme temperatures on household electricity consumption using data from the China Residential Energy Consumption Survey. The results show that for every additional day with a mean temperature exceeding 32 degrees C, there is an 8.9% increase in annual electricity consumption. The study also finds that households rely on air conditioning to cope with heat stress, leading to higher electricity usage. The findings suggest that future global warming could significantly increase residential electricity consumption, but implementing measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions could mitigate this effect.

Sharing matters: Household and urban economies of scale for a carbon-neutral future

Urban and rural differences with regional assessment of household energy consumption in China
