Myocardial strain indices and coronary flow reserve are only mildly affected in healthy hypertensive patients

Dimitrios Evangelou et al.

Summary: The study found that well-controlled hypertensive patients have mild echocardiographic differences compared to controls, with some of these differences depending on age and body mass index (BMI). A 'hyper-rotation' phenomenon (i.e. higher TWIST) early in hypertension may be a compensatory mechanism to preserve global systolic left ventricular function. Coronary microcirculatory function was impaired in hypertensive patients, albeit within normal range, and was associated with DIPSE-induced changes in myocardial long-axis systolic function.

Risk for recurrent cardiovascular disease events among patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease

Demetria Hubbard et al.

Summary: This study compared the risk for recurrent cardiovascular disease events among patients with a history of CVD and different levels of diabetes and CKD. The findings suggest that adults with both diabetes and CKD after a myocardial infarction have a higher risk for recurrent CVD events compared to those with prior CVD without diabetes or CKD.

3D Echocardiography - A Useful Method for Cardiovascular Risk Assessment in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients

Magdalena Kovarova et al.

Summary: CKD patients, particularly those with ESRD undergoing dialysis, often experience cardiac structural changes more prominently than functional changes. ABI may not be suitable for assessing cardiovascular risk in this patient population, while echocardiography proves to be an effective tool in evaluating cardiac structure and function.

Coronary microcirculation and left ventricular diastolic function: comparison between patients on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis

Summary: Patients on hemodialysis (HD) were found to have more advanced diastolic dysfunction compared to those on peritoneal dialysis (PD), independent of the presence of hypertension and diabetes. Coronary flow reserve (CFR) did not differ between HD and PD patients, but was significantly lower in diabetics and patients with more advanced diastolic dysfunction.
